Brought this jacket 15 months ago. Looks great and is hard wearing. I had a small issue with it recently so I wrote to Walker and Hawkes and even though it was a Sunday I had a reply and more assistance then I expected within minutes. Highly recommended them for both quality and customer service.

This is far better than my old Barbour. Excellent finishing. Great attention to detail. Elegant. Just a really well made piece of kit. Don’t look any further.

I don't usually write reviews, but I've been wanting to write one for this jacket for a while. This is the best waxed cotten jacket/coat I've been able to find. I like it so much I decided to get a 2nd one, in case mine wears out and they stop making them. For some years I had Outback Trading Co. jackets... which IMO are actually better designed, with more features. But the fabric on the sleeves and body of the Outback jackets kept getting little holes in them. Which makes a jacket useless for rainy or wet weather. I live in Oregon where it rains snows, and gets cold a lot so a rain jacket that actually works is very important to me. I got tired of replacing the Outback jackets every year. Then I found Walker and Hawkes jackets and gave em a try. First let me say, I haven't had any holes in the fabric! At first I got the Padded Countrywear Hunting waxed coat in 2XX. I usually wear XL and 2XX fit, but there was no room to layer anything under it and it was a bit hard to get on and off. So I was going to get one in 3XX and decided to get this Greendale Jacket in 3XX instead. Glad I did. It's a bit longer, which helps keep my thighs dry. The outer pockets are definitely bigger and much easier to use, especially with gloves on. The storm collar is higher and better. I also like that it has an inner insulated liner that can be taken out. I didn't like that the sleeves had no insulation. If it got below 40 F my arms got cold. But I fixed that by getting an Amazon Basics puffer jacket, which is fairly inexpensive and well made. If it's cold out I wear that under the Greendale jacket and the combo is very warm, even on sub-freezing days with strong winds. The collar on the puffer jacket fits perfectly inside the storm collar of the Greendale jacket, creating a comfortable seal that keeps out blizzard driven snow or heavy rain. I no longer need a scarf or other accessories in winter storms. The Greendale jacket by itself is great for 40-60 F and with the liner taken out, it's a great rain coat if it's warmer than that.Did I mention the fabric is holding up quite well? Absolutely no holes or tears. I don't abuse it but I live in the country, have horses with metal pasture fencing and I have a big dog, and take walks in the woods. All these things ruined my previous wax cotten jackets. Not this one.The 2 way zipper took a little while to get used to, being "wrong sided" for an American. Being 2 way is a great feature, I wouldn't have a coat without that. But I was dismayed when I first got the coat, at how hard it was to get the zipper going. I finally figured it out, though. First, there's a bit of fabric around the "male" end of the zipper that can get stuck when trying to push it into the female part. I've learned to make sure I've pulled that tiny bit of fabric away from the zipper before I try to zip the coat up. Second, being on the reverse side of what I'm used to, I also learned that I have to rotate my left hand inwards a bit to get the zipper at the right angle to zip up. Since I've been doing those 2 things the zipper works fine.I also love the inner cuff in the sleeves, which is set back far enough to allow long winter gloves to fit inside the sleeves. Being 3XX the sleeves are technically longer than they should be. But I like that. Keeps my wrists and hands more protected and they don't get in the way doing outdoor chores. It'd be nice if the jacket had a few more features, like underarm eyelets to let out perspiration, slits on the sides to allow for easier sitting, or snaps on the cuffs to be able to tighten them. But I really don't miss those details on this jacket. It's just so comfortable, practical, good looking and well made. Don't hesitate if you think this kind of jacket is for you. Just buy it. But get 2 sizes larger than you usually wear, if you're an American.

I had to purchase two sizes to find the right fit. A very well made coat. I am more than happy with my purchase.

First, if you're curious how a British style waxed jacket may fair or adapt to a North American climate, just remember Filson is an American company offering similar clothing.Second, this jacket is very well made and very comfortable. It is a touch looser than a Carhartt 2XL Detroit jacket I own, despite being marked as 3XL. If you compare measurement sizes(I suggest looking at their actual website vs sizing info here on Amazon), this won't be a surprise. But if are counting on a 3xl=3xl, you'll find your jacket is a little more fittedtailored than you might expect.Though I must say. It IS my best fitting jacket, and articulates well as I move around. But the downside is I cannot layer much underneath. Though with the zip inout vest liner, you may not need them.I purchased after thinking about buying something that starts with a B. I'm not disappointed. This came with the the hood and a zip in liner for less money.Have since placed a 2nd order for a jacket for my wife as well. All that to say... I may still buy a Barbour someday. One cannot have too many jackets, you know. ;-)

I am 5'11", 235 pounds, with long arms, and a 50" chest. The size chart suggested I get the 3XL, but, I read that these tend to run a bit large, so, I ordered the 2XL. Glad I did - perfect fit, with room for layers. I'm almost looking forward to a rain storm so I can test out the water repelling functionality! Out of the box, with the liner attached, I put it on over a heavy sweatshirt, and there was plenty of room to move - very comfortable, and warm, even on a blustery cold New England day.I ordered this Feb 24. Coming fastest shipment, it was expected March 2; it arrived Feb 28 - 2 days ahead of schedule.I will say that the zip is a bit fiddly, but, I imagine that is more a "learning the item" issue, rather than a defect.

Trying the coat on for the first time I casually opened one of the snap pockets. Doing so, even with care, because the outer cotton fabric to rip. Failure of assembly? Or poor overall design?

The zipper system zips both ways and is not smooth to engage. The jacket also runs small.
