My civic is 20yrs old and has a lot of miles on it. The gasket on the spool valve failed and leaked a lot of oil, so decided to replace the valve as well as the gasket. If I can get a few years out of the valve and the car in general I will be satisfied. It seems to work perfectly so far.

Great price on the assembly as a whole. For those of you that are getting VTEC code, i recommend that you try replacing the Oil Pressure Switch that is mounted on the side of the VTEC assembly. It is the sensor with two pin connector and is shown as black plastic housing connector in the picture. Depending on your ECU/ECM, this pressure switch is not always compatible. Typically the vtec pressure sensor on D17A2 motors has a white/off white/beige/yellowish white colored plastic on it, not black. They all look the same to me, but through many hours of research, they are not. Also, take a digital multimeter and test the Solenoid on top. Set multimeter to resistance mode in the 200 range. With Solenoid installed, test resistance between the single Solenoid connector pin and body ground. You can also quick test between pin and outside of vtec casing/housing.(aluminum dull grey metal casting that holds all the VTEC components) but shop manual suggests body ground. You should get a resistance value of about 14-30ohms. I always get about 15-16ohms on the few i have tested. The pressure switches can be bought for anywhere between $8-$150.VVT pressure switchOEM Part #: 37250PHM003"Carparts" has them for $10 plus shipping on website. It may show incompatible for 2005 civic ex special edition, but i personally spoke to them and confirmed it is compatible.
