I bought this as a replacement for a similar one that died after only 3 years. So: not impressed with the quality, but the functionality is quite unique, so I hope this one lasts longer…

Was excited about this product specifically for the navionics integration since that is what I use on my boat with an iPad.Once I got the product I spent some time setting it up and got it running…could not figure out how navionics integrates.Emailed the company, emailed navionics….crickets…Turns out navionics dropped support a year or so ago. All good anyway this sonar technology is pretty outdated with 10+ year old design. I returned and went with a cheap CHIRP sonar castable…still no integration; it would be nice to see this product updated and supported.

I purchased this Summer of 2017. Although I think it has been around a while, it still functions very well and means it is that much better value (price is good). Here is a bit of what I learned, as this was the first sonar I tried out. Installed on 14 foot aluminum fishing boat with 20hp.* Having the sonar image available via phone/app to everyone on the boat a big plus.* If you match this with Navionics boating maps on your smart device, it will do a split screen maps/sonar display.* The only trouble I have is with two NEXUS devices. The phones will sometimes have a hard time connecting. To fix I have to forget the wifi connection, and then reconnect.* Install a wider (say 12 inch) piece of PVC or "plastic" 1x2 on the lower back of your boat to attach the transducer to. It will let you move the transducer around if necessary or add another tranducer without more holes below the waterline. The "plastic lumber" is white, so I painted it silver to match the hull.* Use 3M thru hull glue/caulk for the screws. Some people just use the product like glue. I also used two stainless steel bolts. Go easy on the glue, I used way too much and it makes the attach board stick out just a tiny bit. It only takes a tiny bit of glue/caulk to stop water.* When mounting your transducer, you want it low enough to get a good reading at speed, but high enough so it doesn't throw out a large rooster tail when at speed. About even with the boat bottom (transducer bottom and boat bottom) is about correct. You can adjust slightly up/down. The front point of the transducer is usually pointed DOWN just a tiny bit.* When mounting your transducer, check the bottom of your boat, and try to get it in an area that is free of rivets. Smoother water flow = better operation. Of course you will probably push it out to the end some so it is not inline with the boat motor.Mine will read up to about 10 knots. I know it will read even faster, but have to adjust some. Even though this unit lacks the fancy DSP image processing, you can still identify the sonar images with some practice. For example schools of fish have a certain look (blob of noodles). What I am trying to say is that the fancier units try to interpret/convert the raw data to present something you more easlily recognize. But it can be valuable to view the more basic sonar image and interpret things yourself.I could not be happier with this unit!!Good luck,Eric in Dallas

I purchased and installed this on a twenty year old, 25' sailboat (Com-Pac 25) to replace the failed analog depth sounder. I use the fish finder as a depth sounder with the Navoinic app on my 10" Android pad. I did install a 12v plug to power the pad and have a mounting bracket for the pad on the helm, but I only need that if I am sailing for more than a couple of hours. The fish finder is hardwired to a 12v switch on the boat and the sending unit is epoxied to the hull below the v-berth in the bow. Installation was fairly easy, and I have been very satisfied with the performance of the product. One nice feature about this set up, is I can upgrade or change my navigation app or device and simply link to the wifi signal produced by the fish finder. I know replacing the analog depth sounder may have been less expensive, but this set up gives me digital depth sounder with GPS navagation on my android pad and is more 2015 technology, than 1995.

This is really awesome! I have used this device now a dozen times on my Kayak and it is absolutely Fantastic! Because it is only water resistant, I put the Sonar phone along with a Battery ( (12V 5Ah 1250) into a Plano Marine 1312 box, which i modified, so that the plug for the Transducer is on the outside of the box. This way In case of an unwanted tumble only the plug would get wet. The App for the Sonar phone is pretty basic, but functional, pretty much like your basic sonar. The only complaint about the app I have, are the buttons in the menu, the slide menu buttons are hard to operate when you have your device in a waterproof case. I think it would be better if there would be toggle buttons instead of the side swipe ones.The App does not have any bells and whistles like some of the other wireless fish-finder apps out there, but in my opinion it does not need them. Besides, If you are looking for more functionality you should also get the Navionics boating app, it interfaces very nice with this fish-finder and for what it offers in Nautical charts it is a real bargain! I used the Boating App with the sonar phone and absolutely love it, it plots your own charts that are coming from the sonar phone into the existing chart maps, this way they are updated constantly by users that use this device or similar chart plotters. You can also edit the charts if you come across something unusual, for example you can make other people aware of a big obstruction, or your favorite fishing spot. One thing that you should be aware of is that even though you can change the sonar phones network Name and give it a custom name it is not advisable when you want to use it with the Boating app. It is better to keep the default network name. I had done this and the boating app was not connecting with the data stream of the sonar phone anymore. Once I reset the sonar phone to its original setting it worked again flawlessly. So be aware of this! Another little hick up is that in the manual they tell you to press the power button "x" amount of times to do a reset, but it is actually the "reset button" you need to use. I really do not understand these companies sometimes, they say they put the manual online, so they can easily change it, in case they update something, but then errors like this are in it for ever. So, a small detail left out can end up in BIG frustration, it took me a long time to figure out how to reset the unit, I was almost going to duct them a star for this mishap! All in all I love this thing and it is one of the best items I have purchased in a while.
