Fantastic mouthpiece. Vandoren has great quality control so every one is symmetrical and precise, flat table, even siderails. Once you decide on an approach to good sound, ie. Wider tip opening with lower strength reeds (Plas Johnson of Pink Panther fame played 1.5 baritone reed on a very open mouthpiece, while Stan Gets sent in the opposite direction) narrow beak versus wider and rounded, then a mouthpiece that is exact and provides a great seal between reed and mouthpiece is the most important factor. That is why many saxophonist pay to have their mouthpiece worked on by a professional mouthpiece technician, but Vandoren somehow provides all of that right out of the box.

I bought the Vandoren V5 T20 and T27 tenor sax mouthpieces at about the same time to compare, keep one and return the other. Although they are opposite on facing length and tip opening, I expected T27 to win because it was similar to my V5 A28 (alto sax) mouthpiece which I love for timbre and playability. Nevertheless, neither tenor mouthpiece played similarly to the A28 but I preferred and kept the T20 and returned the T27. IMO, the T27 was pickier with reed selection. For the T20, I’m using a Légère 2.75 and 3.0. Just remember that both the T20 & T27 are excellent mouthpieces, the T20 worked best for me and your mileage may vary.

While I was very fond of my TL3 Mouthpiece when I used it to replace my stock Yamaha 4c Mouthpiece that came with my Yamaha YTS-26 Tenor Sax. The TL3 was nowhere near as open (being for classical music) as my Yamaha 4c but after practicing on it for a while I'd gotten accustomed to it. The TL3 felt a bit muted which is what I purchased it for but as I've gotten better at playing I felt I needed a bit more projection from my horn. I recently purchased the T20 because Vandoren claimed it produced the BEST tone. Right out of the box I was able to play it without any issues (I'm a Beginner). It is so much easier to play than all of my other mouthpieces and it's boisterous tone is eye-opening. I use it with a 2.5 Vandoren Java Red Filed reed. I suggest anyone looking to upgrade or replace a mouthpiece go to the Vandoren website and view the comparisons and specifics of each of their mouthpieces and their reed suggestions. For Beginner / Early Intermediate players looking for an awesome tone they can't go wrong with this mouthpiece.

Purchased this for my daughter who has been playing with a standard student mouthpiece. The difference in tone was immediate and she finds it easier to play and has more control. Worth the upgrade.

picked up the tenor after a 5 year hiatus of playing. started with the stock mouthpiece i used in high school, was not doing it for me. bought a rico A3, was an improvement but still not cutting it for me. Visited my father and tried out his T20 and instantly noticed a very large improvement on the easy of playing and tone. ended up purchasing my own the next day. I play this piece on a 55 Conn 10M, with Vandoren 2 1/2 reeds. Gives a very centered, classical sound. has the ability to be played very softly with good tone. having difficulty getting a good tone/volume as i attempt to playing fortissimo, but i am improving on this as i practice. really makes the Conn sing beautifully and am very happy with the purchase.
