I’ve used the standard gun case locks by this brand before, and these new ones are a massive improvement in pretty much every way. Unlike the older version, where the pin could detach from the rubber case, the new design uses a braided wire to permanently secure the pin to the body, making it stronger and less likely to get lost when dealing with careless TSA agents. The pin also pushes deeper into the lock with multiple gripping points, reducing exposure to potential hand tool attacks. Additionally, the code input is now on the narrow end, eliminating the confusion I had with the old version where the wheels were exposed on both broad sides (less important than the security points, but this change makes it less annoying).Overall, this version feels more substantial, sturdier, and more secure, and my I plan on swapping out all the old versions I have with this version. If there's not a huge price difference (at the time I'm writing this, these are actually slightly cheaper than the old version), it's a no-brainer: get this upgraded version.

This is a very straight forward case lock that is similar in design to the ubiquitous TSA approve cable locks that you see out there. The difference is that this one has a bolt that goes in the lock hole of your case. It's quite a bit sturdier than the cable lock that it resembles, making it a good fit for this purpose. The bolt is spring loaded, so that when you open it, the bolt ejects for very easy removal from the case; which might have been awkward otherwise. Resetting the combination is easy, just like most locks with this basic design. I didn't even notice that there were instructions until I had already changed the combo. Overall this is a good lock for your case that is far more secure than TSA cable locks.

I've used similar locks that have one depth. While they work, this one has multiple depths it supports. So if somebody tries to unlatch the case with other locks it can wiggle open a little bit. This one goes down very tightly.Compared to the other TSA locks I have with only one depth, the gripping groove is much less deep (but there are many such grooves). So I don't have the greatest confidence that they will hold when pried. But these are TSA locks -- they can't by definition stop anybody with a modicum of preparation (such as buying a TSA 007 key), or ten minutes alone with it to try all the combinations. As such, it's an acceptable trade off. The entire class of TSA locks is mainly to appease regulators and lawyers. The other locks I have are smaller in form factor since the combination encircles the shaft rather than being beside it. But that may be because this supports multiple depths and the gripping interface may thus be more complex. It could be that it grips multiple grooves at once when it locks. I have not destructively opened the lock or tested its maximum prying force.

I previously owned the earlier version of the LAFENLIN gun case lock and had some difficulty seeing the numbers on code combination dials. Due to that reason, I only gave it 4 stars. However, this upgraded version has made significant improvements. The combination dials are now larger with better contrast, making them much easier to read. The lock cable has also been upgraded from a detachable silicone cable to a sturdy attached metal cable for durability. Additionally, the locking rod is slightly thicker for added overall security. With these improvements, it's a great buy.

Okay, let’s look at this LAFENLIN TSA Approved Gun Case Lock. I bought this lock because I needed a secure yet travel-friendly solution for my firearm case. I wanted something that could keep my belongings safe while still allowing TSA agents to inspect my case without breaking the lock. When I got it in my hands, the lock felt solid in my hand. Unlike flimsy plastic locks I’ve used before, this one has a durable alloy body with a flexible yet sturdy handle that adjusts to different case thicknesses. The 4-digit combination mechanism was easy to set, though the lack of instructions could be confusing for some. Once I figured out how to press the small reset pin at the bottom, setting my unique code was straightforward. The alloy shackle is a nice touch - it not only provides a secure fit but also seems more resistant to tampering than traditional locks with thin, rigid shackles. After using this lock for a few weeks, I found it to be highly reliable. It fits snugly on my Pelican gun case and my toolbox, and it holds up well against rough handling. During travel, TSA agents opened and re-secured it without any issues, which was a relief since I’ve had other locks cut off in the past. The mechanism operates smoothly, and the combination wheels turn with a satisfying resistance, preventing accidental resets. However, the lack of included instructions could be a downside for first-time users, and while the lock offers a decent level of security, it’s not entirely pick-proof - someone with enough time and skill could likely bypass it. That said, it does exactly what it’s meant to do: deter quick access and provide a solid layer of protection. Overall, this lock exceeded my expectations in durability and ease of use. It’s a great choice for securing gun cases, toolboxes, and luggage without worrying about TSA cutting it off. While it may not be an impenetrable fortress, it’s well-built, travel-friendly, and does the job well. If you need a TSA-compliant lock that feels substantial and secure, this is definitely worth considering.Bottom line:The LAFENLIN TSA Approved Gun Case Lock is a solid, travel-friendly option for securing gun cases, toolboxes, and luggage. Its durable alloy body and flexible shackle provide a snug fit, while the 4-digit combination mechanism is easy to set once you figure out the reset pin (though instructions are lacking). It holds up well to travel and TSA inspections without being cut off. While not completely pick-proof, it offers a strong deterrent against quick access. Overall, a reliable and well-built choice for those needing TSA-compliant security. Solid 5-stars product, highly recommended!Pros:1. Sturdy alloy body with a flexible, strong shackle.2. TSA agents can open and relock it without cutting.3. Simple 4-digit combination setup once the reset pin is figured out.4. Fits various case thicknesses, including gun cases and toolboxes.5. Smooth combination wheels prevent accidental resets.Cons:1. No instructions included, which may confuse first-time users.2. Not completely pick-proof against skilled tampering.
