I have trimmed the filter to fit into my vaccum cleaner. However I am doubtful the black foam has any activated carbon/charcoal. It looks exactly like a regulat foam without any added carbon.

Excellent inexpensive alternative to pre and post bagged vacuum motor filters using the original well worn vacuum cleaner filters as templates. In addition activated charcoal is an improvement over the plain felt originals. Right thickness for both older Bissell and Oreck vacuums.

These are just what I needed for my 20 year old hoover cannister. It has two different filters and the secondary is just not available. These were a perfect replacement. People don't realize if you keep appliances clean and just a bit of maintenance they last forver.

Could not find d filters anywhere, not even Sears who made product. But Amazon has them and they work great!
