I was looking to buy a 5x10 roll of mat flooring that is used in cheer leading floors. Honestly, there are only a couple places online to buy this. I then found this mat on amazon and was fairly curious. So I bought it when it was on sale.....Some main points1) my child was a little intimidated by the mat because if she falls, shes not used to the cold slightly stiffer surface of this mat. she is used to felt-like flooring of a typical cheer gym.2) yes, the traditional cheer mats are warmer/softer *surface*. but theyre both fairly padded. this tumble mat is ticker actually... so landing might bite a little due to surface, but still provides ample protection on a fall.3) to address the "rebound" advertisement --- yes it is a bit springier than traditional cheer mats, on hardwood flooring. Keep in mind, cheer mats are meant to be placed on spring sub-flooring, not hard wood. This tumble mat was meant to give a little more spring than a regular mat at home, when its NOT on spring-subflooring. So comparing the two mats on home hardwood flooring: this tumble mat is no doubt the one that has a slight edge on the springyness --- if thats a word. but i will say absolutely NO WHERE close to jumpy as a real cheer floor with proper spring suspended subflooring.4) i really wish the surface was more felt-like. but i can see pros/cons of this, at home.. the tumbl mat surface is much easier to wipe down and clean up since it feels like a regular "blue school mat" .... this surface allows the mat to fold up really well and tidy when not in use, (as opposed to a roll). also does not make lint and hair to stick onto it -- like a cheer mat does.... that drives me nuts. however if they found a way to make the surface less stiff and more like a real felt-like feel, i think this would be a better mat.5) this is SUPER light. I can easily fold and carry this mat myself aroudn the house (basement, upstairs, storage...)anyway, i'm fairly happy to have this mat. my daughter is just starting out with Cheer and she had her first performance.... she got used to the surface quickly and is now doing her back flip practises with confidence.

My daughter is a competitive cheerleader, so we've accumulated a variety of tumbling equipment. I really liked the concept of this mat to help her improve her rebound as she's starting to work on connecting round offs and back handsprings to tucks. We were very disappointed with this mat. At twice the cost of a standard panel mat, I expected a big difference. This mat definitely has a different feel to it, but it doesn't do much to improve her rebound.Tumbl Trak is a great company that I've purchased from many times before and will definitely purchase from again. I just can't recommend this mat.

It's a good quality tumbling mat. Panels can be folded for various uses. Each panel has a non-skid strip under it, which has helped us safely use it on a hardwood floor. I wish it didn't cost so much, but you can tell this mat will hold up for a long time.

I'm a former Gymboree Play & Music employee, so I have quite a bit of experience with tumble mats (we even at home). My 9-year-old recently swapped her tumbling class for cheerleading, though, so I picked up this mat to compare. At 5'x10', this rebound mat is longer and wider than a typical 4'x8' tumbling mat. Both mats have an easily-cleaned vinyl shell and while both mats share a quad-fold design with connecting Velcro on two sides and receiving Velcro on the other two to connect multiple mats, there is a huge difference in the mat performance. A tumbling mat is designed to absorb impact, the landing on it cushions a blow or fall and it feels a little like walking on sponges. By contrast this tumbling mat really delivers on its promise for a springy reaction, as it is very firm foam and feel stiff to walk on. This has the effect of making the rebound mat a much better mat for jumping and cheerleader-style cartwheel antics than our tumble mats. The only down side is that my daughter was used to the absorption of the tumbling mats, so when she landed hard on her tailbone on a fall, the full energy was rebounded right up her spine instead of being absorbed by the mat, and it took a couple days to get her to use this one again.Having now used the tumble mat for nearly a month, she's used to its better performance for cheerleading and strongly prefers it over her tumbling mats. So I guess we'll be picking up a couple more this Christmas and maybe redoing the basement. Sad that she's growing up so quickly, but cool that she has the right equipment for her sports passion.

The mat is easy to fold and unfold, and it provides plenty of padding to soften falls of gymnasts, dancers, and anyone that wants to try a new trick.
