This worked wonderfully well - twice. Once for oil, once for cheese. The third time we plugged it in it was dead as a doornail after being washed and stored carefully. Won't be buying anything from this brand ever again.

Excellent produit! Nous l'avons utilisé tant pour la fondue chinoise que pour la fondue au fromage et les deux ont répondus à nos attentes. Je le recommande!

We used for a meat fondue for 6 people. Good control over the heated oil. Cleaned up well. Looking forward to using more often with the ceramic dish for cheese and chocolate fondues.

I had 2 fondue dinners with friends. We had a wonderful time cooking the food and lots of time to converse. The meal was enjoyed, it was easy to use and set up. The clean up was a breeze. No Sterno can to deal with, just needed a safe place to plug it in so no one tripped over the cord.

So I did my research and America's Test Kitchen rated this an excellent buy. I bought one for my brother the year before based on that rating and we used it (along with my old broken one) for the annual Christmas dinner with my mom. So this year I realized my old one was dead too late and ordered one for myself not realizing it was going to get delayed because of the holiday shopping season. None of the local stores carried it and so I made a plea to the company in the hopes they could expedite the shipping. I got a really nice email from the service rep and they got it to me in time for my family's dinner. Thank YOU!As for the set, it heats perfectly. Having had Sterno, candle, and electric sets in the past, this is by far the best. Works great for coq au vin, cheese, and chocolate fondues. Plus the inserts make it a cinch to clean. Nothing better than seeing a 6 year old bogart the lobster tail! Fondue was a family tradition for me starting before age 6 so it's wonderful to pass it on to the next generation.

I have three fondue pots sets, the other two are:1) Stainless Steel electric. It seems like these come from multiple manufacturers and all look/function the same. There are fancier looking ones however they are the same design when it comes to heating the fondue. wide and low Non stick bowl connected to an electric burner. similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/Oster-FPSTFN7700-022-Fondue-Pot/dp/B002FWTPIO/2) Simple Ceramic with gel fuel http://www.amazon.com/Trudeau-Nova-Fondue-Piece-Set/dp/B001BFX70I/First let me talk about the the weaknesses of the highly available first fondue pot.The first set of fondue pots are great for broth's. But for Cheese and Chocolate they do not work well. They work ok with cheese however they will burn it to the base and cleaning will be hard (I recommend soaking overnight in water and a squirt of dishwasher liquid). You might think "oh well that's just what happens when I cook cheese". Well with the Trudeau Alto3 and the basic ceramic pots you'll find out that is not true. Because of the double boiler setup the Alto3's ceramic bowl does not burn the cheese. Infact I can usually soak in water for a minute or two and any remaining cheese will come off. The basic ceramic pot will burn the cheese too however the cheese peels off and becomes a weird tastey treat. So basically the non stick on the metal fondue pots does not work. Maybe it works initially but after a bunch of uses it burns off.So I've tried the basic electric pots and I'm complaining about the cheese sticking. So next I tried basic ceramic pots. As I mentioned previously their non stick powers seem to be much better than the basic electric teflon pots. Their weakness is the fuel. You have to have the fuel which is hard to get, and it is hard to control heat wise. It also runs out during long cheese sessions and is in generally kind of annoying. The Alto3 with the ease of electric and the double boiler insert is a combination of everything that works without sacrificing too much or creating new problems. There are a few minor issues which I'll mention later. One other advantage of the Alto3 is that the main design is a double boiler. So you get a stainless steel sauce pot which a ceramic insert fits into. You put your cheese or chocolate in the ceramic and then heat the water in the steel sauce pan and the steam heats the ceramic pot. So once you are done with your cheese course you can take the now dirty ceramic pot off stainless steel pot dump out the hot water and make your broth in the stainless steel sauce pot. No need to have a second fondue set or clean the cheese pot. Unfortunately you would still need to clean the ceramic pot for chocolate course if you were doing that.I have a few minor gripes with Alto3:The first is that the electric cord is way too short. I think they did this as protection from liability if someone were to trip over a long cord and throw hot oil everywhere. The problem is its stupid short and you will need an extension cord. So you will most likely need to use an extension cord. So now I still have the tripping/hot oil hazard however Trudeau is probably protected from liability.Second gripe if you are using the double boiler and the water gets too hot it will start to blow steam this can be kind of annoying maybe dangerous if you don't know about it and learn how to control it. I usually just push the ceramic pot inside the steel pot so that there is a gap for the steam to escape where someone wouldn't be reaching their hand/arm to dip. I think in general you don't want the water to be hot enough that its turning to steam however I like my cheese a little hotter.

We love this fondue set! We love the non-flame, electrical version of this fondue set and have used it comfortably with 5-6 people. We did buy an extra set of forks, though, to ease with meat prep in Chinese fondue. We've used this for broth/Chinese fondue and cheese fondue so far and had a lot of fun. The adjustable heat level is great. You need a power cord, though, to make this work well as the existing cord is short. We have no complaints so far. Note that we've only owned it for a ~2 months but have used it 3-4 times in this time. We actually purchased this product after having fondue with some friends who also owned one of these exact sets and they've had theirs for a lot longer than us and they, too, love their set.

I like this product, even though I have only used it once and am new to fondue, because it does it all: cheese, broths, oils, chocolate. It is attractive, easy to use and has those extra features that separate it from lesser models like fondue fork holders. I live alone, and although it might be big for one person, it is still okay and I do plan on having larger parties of several people (and I am sure it could do up to six people, well). I bought it apparently second hand, but it was, as the blurb said, in excellent condition. I don`t mind that the cord is short. I find the magnetic plug in holds it in firmly enough to be reasonable yet no so strong so if some trips on it or pulls it that it won`t come off easily. My major problem with this is that the cookbook they supply is really skimpy, but there are recipes on the web and can be purchased online (and elsewhere I am sure). I look forward to incorporating this into a regular routine (monthly) of my cooking regime.

After researching a LOT of electric fondue pots, decided on this one, & it arrived this past week. Visually I at first thought it looked a bit small, but it was the perfect size for the homemade "Swiss Fondue" I made last night for the two of us. But while I can see this being used for a group of 4, or perhaps as part of a buffet, I think 6 people trying to dine at once from it would be pushing the limit (six color-coded stainless-steel fondue forks are included). Everything in this set is well-made; the base, stainless pot, & crock insert are solid with nice heft.As per instructions, I made my cheese fondue in a separate pot on my range top, & then transferred it to the ceramic crock insert. Added an inch or 2 of water in the stainless pot (which you use by itself without the crock insert for oil or broth fondues), situated the crock insert inside, & switched on the heat. It was SO nice not to have to fiddle with sterno, & even though there's no numeration or "high-low" markings on the dial, it was very easy to simply raise or lower the heat accordingly. My fondue remained creamy smooth with no breaking/separating, as well as at perfect dining temperature with absolutely ZERO bottom scorching. Hand-washing is recommended, but wasn't an ordeal. What a delight this appliance is!! I see many lovely fondue concoctions in our immediate future.
