I bought this kit to replace the battery box on a Big Tex equipment trailer. This kit comes with a battery, battery box, and break-away switch. I only used the system box & battery and the swap out Installation was as expected. The main reason for buying this kit was to have the ability to test battery voltage. The old setup did not have this feature. The quality of this kit is good and hopefully it will hold up over the next several years.

This was the perfect trailer breakaway kit for my particular application! My old system was no longer working, so I thought I would give this product a try. Well, I am glad that I did because it was just what I needed for ensure the safety of my trailer to activate the electric brakes in the event of a detachment. It was relatively simple to install and came with everything necessary to complete the installation. I really like that it has the LED indicators and test button which my old system did not have. Overall, I am very pleased with this product and therefore highly recommend it with the top five star ranking all the way!

The one feature of this that is better than other brake controllers is the very clear and bright battery status indicators when pressing the test button. Product arrived with fully charged battery ready to be installed and used. This is where the good features end in my opinion though. This requires ridiculously long screws or bolts to attach it to the trailer frame and none are included. This brake controller is in no way waterproof, splash proof, maybe. There is no gasket between the two plastic halves of the case or where the wires exit the case. Anyone that has used one of these knows the battery will need to be replaced at some point in the future. This brake controller is not hinged. To access the battery you will have to remove the 4 screws holding this to your trailer and then an additional 4 screws holding the case together. This might not be a bad process every few years to replace the battery. However, if you want to remove the battery for the offseason when a trailer is not being used this is less than ideal. This is not something I would purchase again due to these negative design elements.

I had to rewire the taillamps on my utility trailer and opted to add this breakaway system while i was at it.The wires are color coded and the box actually has a color code cheat sheet printed on the front.It has a built in tester that allows you to easily check the battery's status. This system will be very handy as I dont use this trailer often, but I definitely want the peace of mind of having the trailer stop if it becomes detatched. Definitely recommend!
