Dealer destroyed the threads of the aluminum oil pan of my daughters CRV and did not bother to fix it. When I changed the oil I got a handful of threads. Saw this on YouTube (South Main Auto) and it worked exactly as was demonstrated and gave me the confidence that I could do it. This is a sleeve type threaded insert and not a coiled shape insert. Basic ability to follow instructions is all that is needed (plus a wrench or two for the taps). May appear pricy but is a solid permanent repair that paid for itself with one repair. Came with multiple inserts should the other Honda's we own experience the same problem.

The instructions are minimal and straight to the point, detailed pics and tons of videos online demonstrating how to use the time-sert. Used on a 2012 Honda Pilot with aluminum pan, drain plug was stripped and just wanted to fix this correctly because oil is going through the roof. Total process took 1 hour after oil drained, make sure you have extra oil and grease on hand to catch the shavings then flush any remaining bits after the install of the sleeve.

Unfortunately I use to take my little Honda Fit to a mechanic to change the oil and do small minor things to my vehicle. However they stripped my oil drain plug and didn’t tell me about it until I went to change the oil myself one day. To my surprise my plug just spun in the hole and when it did come out, the threads came out like a spring. I did some research online and found a mechanic who recommended this little gem for fixing aluminum oil pans without replacing the whole pan which is the entire bottom half of my engine. The kit was easy to use and along with the video I found it was pretty simple to do. It took me about an hour to complete and did the job perfect!!

2005 Honda Civic, oil pan drain plug stripped. Oil change people said I'd need a new oil pan. They used a 14 mm self-threading bolt to seal it. It, of course, leaked. I used the Time-Sert tools for a 14 mm to repair what was done. I also used a valve to replace the oil pan bolt so I wouldn't have to keep screwing and unscrewing the bolt during oil changes. It leaked until I tightened the valve enough. Now, no leaks. Worked great. Be sure to check if a self-threading bolt was used since this will affect which Time-Sert tools you'll need.

This is a great kit and provides a much higher quality repair than most other alternatives. I did the entire install using hand tools only due to limited clearance beyond the drain plug hole. TIME-SERT requires a minimum of 0.25 inch clearance beyond the depth the of the insert installed depth. I had 0.375 inner clearance beyond the drain plug hole, and was able to complete the install without any problems. TIME-SERT also allows the use of Loctite on the threaded insert when installing if desired. I used blue Loctite after cleaning both the insert and threads thoroughly with brake clean. Between the flared insert and Loctite, I'm confident the repair is rock solid. This kit saved me a lot of frustration and money.

The local shop wanted over $1000 to replace the oil pan on my Miata. At that price it was worth taking a risk on an alternative approach to fixing the stripped threads on the drain plug by using the Time-Sert kit. The kit has everything you need. I only needed to use it once, but the tools are very well made and could be used repeatedly by a shop. This kit fixed the problem and oil no longer leaks onto my garage floor. Just to make sure nobody ever strips out the drain plug again, I installed a Fumoto engine oil drain valve.

Prompt delivery. Worked as advertised. I highly recommend this kit when you experience the dreaded stripped out threads on an aluminum oil pan drain. Excellent kit to save the oil pan. Definitely would have been over $1,000 to remove and replace the oil pan on our 2010 Town and Country 4.0 L. There's no way to use a drill motor to do any of this work. The frame was in the way. However, I was able to drill out the threads sing a ratchet on the bit, counter bore the hole, and then tap in the new threads using the ratchet. Sinking the counter bore for the insert collar was the most difficult. The tip another person left on one of the sites about dipping the bit counter bore, and the tap to capture the aluminum shavings worked well. The most difficult part of the job was using a copper wire to assist in turning the toggle bolt parallel to the bolt shaft through the oil pan drain hole to get the butterfly toggle bolt temporary plug that the knuckle heads put when they stripped out the threads to stop the oil leak.

Bought this kit many months ago and finally got to use it. The drain plug on a 2006 Honda Pilot was stripped out and the dealer wanted over a $1000 to replace the whole pan. This is definitely a quality product and all of the parts worked as they were supposed to. The only issue is on the Honda Pilot you have almost no room to use this tool. Make no mistake this tool did the job but it is not as easy as described so plan accordingly.
