Tips on Feeding Pond Fish

When introducing a new food, slowly float only one or two pellets on the pond's surface until your fish show interest. Only feed fish what they can eat within five minutes, and skim out any leftovers that could decay into muck.

Fish are creatures of habit. To set a mealtime routine, visit your pond at the same location and time of day. Fish will soon recognize the feeding pattern and greet you pondside.

Why Wheat Germ in Cool Temps?

A fish's digestive system slows down at cooler temperatures, and a wheat germ diet is easier to digest. Our Spring & Fall formula has a unique balance of high-quality natural vegetable proteins, amino acids, digestive enzymes, as well as vitamins and minerals.

Wheat germ fish foods are easier on fish's delicate digestive systems and should be used once the water temperature falls below 50°.

How to Use

Use The Pond Guy Spring & Fall Fish Food to feed your pond fish up to three times per week, but do not exceed the amount that fish will comfortably eat within a five-minute period. Start feeding your fish with Spring & Fall Fish Food once the water temperature falls below 50°F. Spring & Fall wheat germ based formula is much easier for the fish to digest in cooler water temperatures. Fish, being cold-blooded, can not digest food as easily once the water temperature falls below 50°F. Wheat germ based fish foods are much easier for their delicate digestive systems.

Seasonal Feeding

When choosing pond fish food, check the temperature recommendations on the package and compare it to your pond’s water temperature using a submersible thermometer. In the summer, once pond water reaches 50°F or above, feed your fish The Pond Guy Staple Fish Food. Start feeding Spring & Fall food when water temperatures are between 40–50°F, which will transition fish into and out of winter torpor. If water temperatures dip below 40°F, stop feedings.

Precautions

All fish feeding should stop once the water temperature drops to 40°F and below, as fish are in a state of hibernation. They will live off their stored body fat until spring feedings start up again at 40°F.

I just added fish to my pond this summer and was feeding them food I bought from the local pet store. This food was meant for feeding over summer. After reading my fish require different food for fall or just colder weather I ordered this after reading so many great reviews. I'll start by saying it saves a ton of money buying the bigger containers! I also really like that the container is super easy to open since I have to do it daily. At first my fish weren't really touching the food. I think it was because it was a totally different shape then what I was feeding them before (tetra brand). Once they found out it was food, they were living it. Seems like good food at a great price so I plan on sticking with it and will order more when I run out

Fish ate it and seemed fine, if I had to give it a size (from xs,s,m,L,XL) I would give it a medium.
