The jets stick up too high and are almost impossible to cover with glass beads. It ends up looking like a birthday cake with individual candles rather than a natural looking flame

Im no expert builder or block layer by any means, but figured I would build the firepit myself out of cinder blocks that I had lying around. I used stucco on the outside to match my house, used a 3/4" piece of plywood for the outside template and cut the interior dimension of 14"x48" . I decided to use 2"x10" fir for the top (stained) glued and stapled the plywood to the 2x10 frame to ensure it would stay square. Pan was easy to install, basically just drop it in. I had to tie into my natural gas and run about 30' of new pipe. Overall I am very happy with the way it turned out. The whistling everyone talks about is there if you turn the gas on full blast, but turned down to where the flame is in the pic, there is no whistle. Saw you can buy a different gas line that has varied ribs which supposedly quiets the whistling, havent purchased that as of yet, maybe in the future but really dont need too much more flame than what is shown.

Overall I would recommend this insert. It puts out a nice flame (we have a 3/4 gas line up to it which doesn’t hurt) and looks great in my homemade fire table.A couple things to note:The jets are very spread out. You pretty much have to light each individual jet to get it going. Not a big deal but there’s probably no point in getting an electric starter. Just keep a lighter handy. The keys are very high, so if you do get an electric starter, you’re probably going to have to modify it so it’s long enough to light the flame. And then once that one jet is lit, well… you’ll probably need to manually light the others anyway. All in all this was the look I was after so I’m happy with it.

Durable construction and well built. Now you can make a dream become reality with some minor addition of some gas fittings. Definitely worth the money and seems like it would weather the elements.

Beautiful inset. Initially it did appear to look like birthday candles as mentioned in a previous review but we tightened the regulator (which did appear to be fully tightened already but we pulled out some clamps) which then created a the big beautiful flame that we were hoping for. I put in 20 lbs of fire glass and will need about 20 more to cover up the jets.

Good quality and well built, however, it does not include any attachments. If it does not fit your hose connections, you will need to purchase an additional conversion kit.

Item is well constructed and will work nicely for my project. I am estimating I will need to order 40 lbs of glass to fill.
