I bought these pencils on a whim because some in the coloring community were using them and I liked the bright colors. I wasn’t expecting much since I mostly use Prismacolor and Polychromos. With that said I can’t believe how awesome these pencils are! I received them about two weeks ago and they have been the colored pencils I’ve been using the most. They pair up great with Prismas and Polys. They are wonderful by theirselves. Great color lay down, smooth and very soft but they don’t break. Excellent for fine detailed work. Now if they only came in a larger set with more colors. You won’t be disappointed if you try them. They are definitely good enough for professionals.

I am addicted to these colored pencils. The color laydown is so much better than cheaper brands and the triangular, coated barrel makes them so comfortable to hold and use that I don't have to use pencil grips on them for my arthritic hands. Very little pressure is needed to lay down smooth, creamy color. There are 24 colors, which may seem like too few, but they harmonize perfectly together in terms of shade and color value. They are great for adult coloring, for both large and small spaces. They can be sharpened to an ultra sharp point with my TripWorhy electric sharpener. They can also be sharpened well with a metal hand-held sharpener, but it is more difficult. It's worth it for sheer convenience to use an electric sharpener, that gives a perfect point that lasts a long time. The folding easel is compact and makes it easy to keep near me while I color. I think it would make a perfect gift- a set of Stadtlers and a coloring book, that can be used in a chair, at a table, or even in bed, with the easel on a small nightstand. Great German quality. I gave up on cheapie colored pencils- these last longer and give much better results!

I was skeptical about purchasing these, sorry I'm a CP snob, and didn't think they would really be soft, I was surprised. They are soft like some of my high end pencils and I really love the nice vivid color palette, these colors are not muted and whimpy. I read about cheap pencils that gave raving reviews and compare to Prismavolr and Polychromos, I fall for it, try them, and if course they aren't, you do get what you pay for. Not these they are good and I paid full price with my own money, did NOT get at a discount rate or for free, it's a real, honest HONEST review and opinion. I do understand those who are disappointed that they only offer a 12 and 24 set. Staedtler, with this coloring craze that does not seem to be fizzling out and going anywhere soon, you have a good pencil that works great for blending and really should add more colors, like a 48 or 72 set. Your prices are good so that people would buy, only a thought.

WOW! Loves these pencils ! These are the pencils recommended by Johanna Basford, so I had to try them. I have no regret, they are really nice and I love this case they come in with this set. It snaps open and securely closed!.. and it will stand up on your desk if you want it to. The pencils are comfy to hold because they are NOT round, they are triangles and have a nice weight and grip to them. Best of all is the color cores are surrounded by a nice white protective barrier that helps prevent breakage. Don't you just hate it when you have to sharpen away half your pencil because it keeps breaking!?? (Prismacolor!) I hope these pencils do well and that Staedtler will start bringing them out in larger sets with more pencil colors! As for coloring, they blend well and will allow for layering. These basic colors are bright, vibrant and this is a decent quality pencil at a very affordable price. Yeaahh!! 5-24-17...Remains a great pencil.....THE lowest priced soft core blendable pencil available......Come on Staedtler.....make these in larger sets with more colors to choose from!

I use Faber-Castell Polychromo pencils, and love them. I know good pencils. I bought these based on reviews here and from friends. I wanted a small set to keep in my briefcase. I love the Staedtler fineliners case, and this looked the same (and is, making them great on the go pencils). What I didn't expect was how much I would love coloring with them! The colors are bright and clear. They layer beautifully. They only come in 24 colors, but you can layer to make an unlimited number of colors! They're very light in the hand, so they don't feel like my expensive pencils, and the cores are very thin, but after several weeks I've had no breakage. You can't beat them for twice the price! They're much better than any other economy coloring pencil that I've tried. I just don't think you can go wrong with these.

Finally received these and I'm so excited to use them! Took a week and arrived in an envelope which had bubble wrap in it too. None of the pencils or the case were damaged :) I scribbled with a few of the colours and the colours look vibrant, good pigment, good variety of colours, case is nice and sturdy as a stand, they feel soft, thinner pencils (or feel like it since they're triangular shaped). Overall, my 1st Amazon purchase and I'm very satisfied :). '''I'm coloring Lost Ocean & the pencils I've used so far lay down color easily, like Johanna Basford says "velvety". The dark green blended easily onto the light green. The only thing I don't like about these pencils is the lack of color options of course & they're very thin! I would prefer if they were a bit bigger like the size of a regular pencil.UPDATE: I LOVE THESE PENCILS! They colour beautifully in Johanna Basford's Enchanted Forest colouring book. The colours are vibrant and work well with my Prismacolour Colorless Blender also. These pencils are definitely worth the money since I also haven't experienced any lead breakage. They're also cheaper on Amazon than Staples.

I can't begin to say how impressed I am with these pencils. I never knew such coloured pencils existed. I'm so used to cheap naff pencils, generally in floppy plastic cases so that they all move around and fall out easily. When I read the reviews of these, I was sold, and hoped I wouldn't be disappointed. Well, they have exceeded expectations. What a fantastic design of the case (and why on earth has it taken me until I'm 30 to see a company use such simple but effective initiative?). It beats even pencil tins, because once opened, the flap opens up to become a stand. This makes the pencils readily available, no more scrambling around trying to find the right colour, and when closed, the case closes securely - something that tins still don't provide. The pencils are soft and beautifully true to the colour on the coating. Very vibrant. They colour in very smoothly and easily, and also evenly. My experience of coloured pencils has always been scratchy colouring-in straight after sharpening, ending with shiny, blunt and hard going colouring as the pencil wore down. Not so with these, no matter if they're sharp or on the blunt side, they still colour effortlessly. I assume it's the soft lead that enables this. I always associated pencils with hard work, but these are a dream to work with. I was a little sceptical over the triangular shape; I thought it might be a tad painful over prolonged periods, but they're very comfortable to use. As you can see, I'm in raptures over these. The colours available are great, so glad I went for the 24 set and not the 12. The only little niggles I have are these: there is no light shade of pink, which may or may not be a bit problematic if you want to colour white people. There is a tanned kind of colour that might suffice. Not a problem for me as I'm not using them as children might, but using them for work. That said, the range of each colour is very good.I can't comment on whether they break or not as I haven't put them through their paces in terms of travel... though they got to me through the post and none of them are broken. As the pencils get worn down and shorter, I wonder if they will rattle around in the compartment a bit. I hope then that the anti-break technology will be proven at this point!I have sharpened one straight out of the box. The triangular shape made my (round) pencil sharpener leave little indentations on the coating. I notice that they've arrived from factory having been sharpened on each side of the triangle. I don't have the time or patience to sharpen these with a knife, so I will settle with the indentations. A small price to pay for such quality pencils. Staedtler have come up trumps.
