****Update**** 01-23-11Despite speaking with a Sony rep through their website prior to the purchase (I'll admit it wasn't a 100% answer) I was told it would probably work with Google TV through the updating feature in the software. This was not true, Google TV is designed only to work with devices that have a HDMI input and output from Sony, so no dice on this. I am a bit annoyed and I have talked with Sony reps about it but the best I could get was an apology and possibly a discount on a Google TV device....No Thanks (IE. replace my TV or Blu-Ray player) I would knock off a star but the objective side of me says it does everything it's supposed to and I can't complain about a feature that wasn't on it and wasn't added.I did cancel cable and I'm not having any withdrawals from TV, between the other options available to me (Mostly Netflix and Hulu). The only thing I can add is that I will be getting a digital antenna to supplement the major channels. My neighbor has already done this and receives a little over 20 channels where we are and many of the major channels broadcast HD at night.****Original Post****Purchased this for some of the features as much as the Blu-Ray. Works awesome, sleek look, love the setup and ease of use. Because of this device I will probably be canceling my cable subscription. It works with Netflix, Youtube, Clicker (minor) and many more. In the fall (today is 09/06/10) Hulu Plus will work with it and I'm guessing when Google TV becomes available it will also work with it. You get notifications for software updates if you're connected online with the device and they're a breeze to complete.Out of the box was easy to setup and use. I bought a HDMI cable to go with it for about $9, I was watching a Netflix instant download movie within 20 minutes of opening the box. The picture quality is amazing compared to my old DVD/VHS combo and even the DVDs I have look better on it, which I believe is due to an up-converting feature.I have a Sony TV as well and when the Blu-Ray player is turned on it will automatically turn the TV on and select the correct input device on the TV for usage. The load times can be slow sometimes when turning on, putting in discs or connecting to services like Netflix. This can be mostly avoided by selecting one of the options that enables a quick-on feature.All-in-all, great purchase, totally worth the price under $200.As a side note, the PlayStation/Xbox option is tempting but then you get drawn into much more than just the purchase of the unit, as I know a couple people who went that route but are enjoying the gaming aspect as well(just with lighter wallets).

I ordered this as a third Blu Ray player in the house. Instead, it became the focal point of my entertainment center. This item was shipped in good packaging and arrived quickly. I opened it up, plugged it in, and connected it to my network. It automatically connected to my network, and I took a hint from my other Blu Ray players and ran the updates first. After a quick activation online, an amazing array of streming video options became available. Streaming video from Netflix never, ever looked so good before. Amazon.com movies were lighting fast. As I sorted through the choices, I suddenly noticed that it had found my laptop on the network, and had made movies, videos, music and pictures available for streaming on my television. The interface is very PlayStation-esque, which made navigating very familiar. Blu Ray discs load more quickly than on my other player or my PS3.The appearance is very sleek, hyper thin with no visible buttons in front, even though they are there. An uncovered USB port on the front right is the only thing to mar an otherwise beautiful look. This player earned a spot at the main entertainment center. I have never been so impressed with a piece of electronics, and this is from a guy typing this on an iPad.I do wish that I could search through music while continuing to play what is on. WiFi is touted, but can be added on via USB, not included. You may want to stick with a wire anyway for maximum network speed for streaming. I wish I had more critiques of it, but I am truly satisfied. Now I have an excuse to up my internet bandwidth at home!Overall, this is the best money I have spent on my entertainment center since upgrading to Plasma.

I spent a lot of time researching for the "perfect" Blu-Ray player. What I've found is that there really is not one. Like anything else, each one has its own strengths and weaknesses. What I did know was my price point - $100 to $130ish. What I found based on reviews on this site and others is that all around, this is the best player for my needs. Let me say up front, probably to the chagrin of some, I was not interested in a player that streamed. My Netflix streams perfectly through my Wii and I'm not interested in streaming YouTube through my television. If I really want to do that, I can hook my laptop up to my TV. Finally, even the 3D option wasn't important to me. Now, why did I end up with this player if I didn't care about a lot of the features? I was looking for a player that had quick start-up time, long-term reliability, and great quality upscaling for my expansive DVD collection. This player has all of these things. Plus, the reviews of this Sony player were more across-the-board consistent than the lesser models. Plus, funny enough it was 2 bucks cheaper than the Sony S370, the model down.Start-up time: It's almost instantaneous. Much faster than any DVD player I have ever owned.Upscaling: So good that in some cases you can tell little difference between the DVD and Blu-Ray. Very satisfied with this.Even though I am not interested in streaming at this time, I do find it extremely annoying that if I did choose to stream I would have to buy the Sony router. My Wii streams the internet fine with my home router and I didn't need to buy any other equipment. I use my Wii as a reference because its what I have, but I know many other companies also let consumers stream through their home internet. Why not Sony?My other minor annoyance is the inability to play AVI and Divx files on this system. What is even more interesting is you can play these file formats through Canadian versions of this player. I speculate that this is the result of a deal between Sony and the MPAA because many of the bootleged movie files one can download today are in these two file formats. However, not ALL AVI files and Divx files are bootlegged movies. Sony should consider that in future firmware upgrades.Overall, for my needs this is a great player. Granted I do not utilize all of the features, but if you are looking for a reliable player that plays both Blu-Ray AND DVDs well, this one is worth the investment.
