I live in a lightning prone area. Sometimes our power company gives us partial power for a 3 or 4 attempts before we get full power. This last time, it blew the neutral on the main line coming in the house. The power company installed surge suppressor burned out and any computerized piece of equipment was fried. The power company only took partial responsibility. I bought the Siemens surge suppressor that fits in my breaker box and it has an LED indicator light that blinks and lets you know it is working. I have a full box and in order to fit the Siemens product in the box I had to get 1/2 sized breakers for two of my other circuits (this surge suppressor takes two spaces in the panel. It was easy to install and I am quite happy with the protection that resulted.

Super easy to install in my Eaton BR panel.I did have an earlier one from a different source that came broken (a little cheaper, supposedly "like new", but clearly marked broken by the previous guy -- waste of time). So this makes me question the lifetime or QA of these devices, but this one is working fine as it seems.
