I don't write a lot of reviews. After a handful of Google searches to find the best mic for desktop recording while not using a sound booth, everyone basically says this is the microphone to get. They are not wrong.I don't care if you're just starting out or you're a seasoned influencer or podcaster, while the price of the mic is double or triple the cost of other entry-level hardware, don't skimp when it comes to your audio. The wrong hardware will make you sound cheap and terrible.I'm recording for a professional presentation using Keynote on a MacBook Pro in addition to recording audio for how-to explainer videos. All of the internal mics from different pieces of hardware I have, including air pods, video conferencing speaker/mic, even the MacBook's own internal mic were ALL terrible. Is this how I really sound when talking to co-workers on Zoom or Teams?Anyway, after installing the Shure SM7 mic onto a Shure boom with Shure's MVX2U audio USB interface (make sure you have a 6-foot HDMI-capable shielded USB-C cable) I was ready to rock.I plugged in the mic and just started recording out of the box. The sound quality from this mic is AMAZING. No fiddling. No volume adjusting. Just pure, rock-solid audio of my voice that blew me away. Even my musician wife was amazed and then she wanted to try it.I have bought other mics before, but this one is everything the review sites say it is. Yes, it's expensive. And worth every penny if you absolutely need professional-quality audio.

i have an extensive mic locker, but i'm still a novice. this mic without going into specifics because there are better resources out there to delve into the capabilities of the microphone, but ill say if you are after a prime dynamic radio-broadcast level vocal output, this is difficult to be beat.the difference from the og sm7b is that it features its own preamp that provides the mic w variable levels of gain so you don't need a separate pre—whether it's a dedicated phantom-powered in line device to provide clean gain to bring mostly dynamics w enough volume to be heard appropriately without needing to max out levels on your amplifier to try to hear yourself without introducing undue noise, or something like a cloudlifter that sits in between but both provide the same type of thing.my point is you don't need to worry about feeding this mic directly to your amp without a pre in between to bring up the mic-level output to listenable levels. there's also other options to adjust the quality of your sound on the device itself as well that i haven't explored, but i'll update this review when i familiarize myself w further capabilities.also it fits well on my boom (scissor) (not low-profile) even tho it's on the heavier side, tho getting the brand-touted scissor arm might be a good option as something to bundle w this purchase.works w my amp right out of the box (mixer) and this vocal output...let me tell you, is downright the warmest, most flattering mic for my voice (on the deeper side).jumped in a voice chat w a friend who also has a dynamic from this brand and we were told we sounded like we were on professional radio.take that as you will, i have never heard a mic output like this. ever. the low end is handled w care and the crispness of the vocal is unmatched. i'm in disbelief, as im in a call monitoring my voice as i compose this review and it's completely outstanding. i'm told of this high quality.set up is nothing more than providing your favorite xlr cable and getting it on a boom or stand, plugging it into your audio interface/amplifier, configuring in your operating system and launching your favorite chat client.i think it's worth it, as for now, i recommend. thanks for reading.

If you have a home studio that isn't properly treated acoustically, it's simple, favor dynamic microphones in your setup. I bought a Neumann microphone before properly treating my space and the initial recording session was heartbreaking because I had a $2K mic that sounded horrible.Even in a properly treated studio, the SM7dB is a great choice, I've personally never heard a singer sound bad on an SM7 variation mic, the low boost and tapered high end is flattering, unlike some condenser microphones that will rip your head off with the boost in high frequencies. I struggle with sibilance on my vocals, and certain microphones will only exacerbate it. No issues on the SM7dB!The newer SM7dB sounds great, I've heard people say the SM7B sounds better, there have always been variables in the testing that I've seen online to be conclusive. Shure themselves say the capsule and circuitry, other than the added preamp (which btw has been designed by Cloud), are the same, and that's good enough for me. In my studio, I have quality outboard mic preamps with plenty of gain, but I still like to use the onboard preamp on the SM7dB at +28dB so I have more flexibilty with how I'm gain staging my mic pre, and if I were using a cheaper audio interface with built-in preamps, I certainly wouldn't want to be maxing out the gain on the built-in mic pre's.The Shure SM7dB (and SM7B) are built to last , so although they are expensive for dynamic microphones the value is certainly there. If you can't afford the $400-$500 purchase, start with an SM57 $100, when the funds are there make the step up to an SM7dB (or SM7B), it will be a vocal mic that you'll always use, no matter how many mics you end up owning.

The Shure SM7B is a game-changer for anyone serious about audio quality. As a podcaster and musician, finding a microphone that delivers on versatility and performance is paramount. The SM7B not only meets but exceeds expectations. Its construction exudes durability, a reassuring factor when investing in quality audio equipment. The sleek design is not just aesthetic but a testament to its robustness, fitting seamlessly into any studio setup. The standout feature? Its ability to capture rich, warm tones across a wide frequency range. Whether I'm recording vocals, instruments, or voiceovers, the SM7B consistently delivers crystal-clear sound reproduction. The bass roll-off and mid-range emphasis controls allow tailored sound shaping, adapting effortlessly to different recording environments and preferences. One thing to note: This microphone requires a good amount of gain, so pairing it with a high-quality preamp or interface is recommended for optimal performance. Additionally, its low sensitivity might not suit all recording setups, especially for quieter sound sources.Despite these considerations, the SM7B's exceptional noise rejection capabilities make it a top choice for professional studios. It effectively minimizes background noise, ensuring clean recordings even in less-than-ideal acoustic settings. In conclusion, the Shure SM7B is a true workhorse microphone. Its unparalleled sound quality, durability, and adaptability make it a staple for audio professionals and enthusiasts alike. While it might demand some additional equipment for optimal performance, the results it delivers justify every penny. If you're seeking a versatile, reliable microphone that consistently produces high-quality audio, the SM7B should be at the top of your list.Remember to tweak or adjust the review as needed, depending on your personal experiences and preferences with the microphone!
