I bought my son a cheap Schwinn bike from Walmart and the pre-installed shifter was just not good, so I found this was a similar design, but by Shimano, instead of whatever off-brand Schwinn used, and liked the price so I gave it a go.After installation (Which wasn't difficult, but you do need to be handy), the difference was night and day. Much smoother shifts, and better control of the front derailleur. I am definitely going to upgrade his rear-shifter to the sister product!

I had broken my original on my bike due to me miss-adjusting the cable then over forcing the shifter. I spent way too much time taking the original apart to attempt repair. For the price and ease of the install, I wish I had just ordered it in the first place.

The old Shimano front shifter mechanism failed on my old Giant Cypress after about 10 years moving me from 24 speed total just to 8 on the rear sprocket. Though not the same model as my old one, this one from Shimano was a perfect replacement. Installation wasn't bad at all - though I had a friend help so that we could manage cable tension on the reconnected front derailleur and brake. Very worthwhile - resurrecting the old bike is a bargain compared to buying something new.

This shifter is an exact replacement for the left shifter on a Diamondback comfort bike. The old shifter stopped indexing on the large ring in front. This new shifter worked perfectly without any adjustments. The installation requires removal and re-installation of the left grip. 4mm and 5mm Allen wrenches as well as cable cutter, a pliers type tool to crimp the cable cap. Front derailleurs can be tricky if adjustments are needed. Be prepared to bring the bike to a qualified bike mechanic to finish it off.

Original held up well, but this new set sems more durable yet same, changed both front and rear. Lubed cabled before threading through jacket. Both took about 2 hrs, had to remove handgrips. Use same brake cables, use same cable coverings, you get shifter and shifter cable, works very well, easy 1st time install from originals. Instal by releasing tension from shifter cables, makes installing easier.
