I bought these shifters a while back for a project bike, and I finally got around to putting together. When I open the box, there is a paper with a few pictures that show where on the bike the device is installed, but no information or instructions on installation. Not to mention, there is no friction mode for the rear shifter. That's a straight-up lie. I've searched all over the web, and I've only found that this rear shifter does not have a friction function. Contrary to what the product description explicitly states. I'm pretty frustrated, I'm past the return date, and I purchased based on a lie.

This product, under the section titled Features & details, lists as the second bullet point:“Rear shifter can be converted from index to friction”.This is a FALSE statement. Rear shifting is index ONLY.Shimano documentation available at si.shimano.com confirms this. Both the Dealers Manual and User Manual make no mention whatsoever of rear friction shifting.Since I had purchased the product specifically for rear friction shifting, I returned the product and received a refund.

Glad I changed back to a friction shifter for the front and the back is indexed perfectly

Kind of a pain to put together, but once together they are amazing shifters. I love how easy it clicks and you know it’s shifted to your gear. Feels very sturdy and strong in your hand while riding.

The shifters are amazing; however, they are described as being able to convert to both indexing and friction. There is no friction option on these shifters. The seller was helpful and I kept them instead of returning them. Just giving the information.

While most people would rudely consider this dead tech, this was just what I needed. Now I didn't use this shifter kit for what it was purely intended for--ski bar end shifters for TT bikes. But going through some postings online from various bike communities it seemed like this is what I needed. I was going through a triple to 11-speed drivetrain conversion and wanted to save a bit of money so I was looking to stick with downtube shifters instead of ripping up the bar tape and recabling everything to install STIs. Now my LBS mechanics were being overly cautious and skeptical about it but I'm sure they were probably just trying to sell me STIs, because once you looked at the exploded diagrams of the shifters from Shimano's site--as long as the bolt threaded onto the frame's shifter mount it's not hard to figure out from there. So I saved another $400 on my already $800 tab and I have no regrets. The shifting is CRISPY AF and they look/feel nice to the touch as well.

Can't go wrong with Shimano and DuraAce. High quality shifters, easy to install and works perfectly.

I've just had them on the bike for a short time. Work well, but a little stiffer than the 9 speed ones they replaced. They may loosen up with time though.
