Product Description

This is Sea Eagle's biggest Explorer kayak. This model is capable of carrying more people and more gear. It is ideal for extended camping and wilderness expedition trips when you need to take weeks-worth of gear. Hunters and fishermen love this kayak because it can be conveniently deflated and easily transported, yet it is large enough to carry-out trophy fish and game.

The Sea Eagle 420x Explorer inflatable kayak is as tough as nails and as rugged as the men and women who ride in it. A handy large kayak that holds two to three adults and up to 855 pounds, the 420x lets you rocket fearlessly down Class IV rapids, traverse miles of wilderness rivers to remote camping spots, or fly fish on trout streams that other fishermen can't access. Even better for travelers, the kayak deflates and stores in a handy carrying bag, so you easily haul it along on a small plane to impossibly obscure fishing or camping sites. There's no better kayak for true adventurers than the Sea Eagle 420x.

Unlike ordinary "dry-only" kayaks with no drains or "wet-only" kayaks with permanently open drains, the 420x offers four extra-large, easily convertible drains for both wet and dry conditions. When the drains are open, the craft bails itself in rough whitewater or ocean conditions. When the drains are closed, they won't let a drop of water in, keeping both you and your cargo comfortably dry in calm water. And even in the worst-case scenario--when your kayak is filled to the gunwales with water--the 420x still floats.

The 420x Explorer owes its durability to 1,000-denier, polyester-supported, high-pressure fabric with quadruple-thickness electronic-welded seams. How tough is the Explorer? In torture testing, Sea Eagle pounded it mercilessly with the claw of a claw hammer to no effect. Stabbing it with a screwdriver also had a negligible impact. The "crocodile hide" hull is so sturdy that it can stand up to almost any challenge, let alone a few bumps from the dock. Other details include integrated bow and stern spray skirts with water-deflecting guards; rope lacing that forms secure handholds and convenient tie-down points; two inflatable kayak seats; two 8-foot double-ended paddles; a foot pump; and a repair kit.

The 420x Explorer measures 168 by 37 inches (W x L) and weighs 54 pounds. It's also backed by a three-year warranty.

I've done rivers, intercoastal and a little bit of ocean waves with this and it's performed amazing whether 1 or 2 people. To give an example of stability, I disconnected one of the seats and moved it while out on the water and didn't feel like it was going to flip over. Assembly was fairly easy the first time in my house to get the hang of it. YouTube videos helped me get acquainted. While an electric air pump would help (not recommended by the manufacturer) the hand pump moves a pretty good amount of air due to the dual action. Overall great purchase!

This is great for two people, pumps up fast and stows away fast. Tracks great in the lake, even with a mild wind. It is even pretty easy to paddle with one person, you just need to be in the center of it. It is fairly easy to get into while in the middle of the lake. It is almost impossible to flip over.

We purchased and began using our Sea Eagle inflatable kayak last summer while we’d were in northern Idaho. It performed flawlessly and was easy to maneuver. I didn’t personally care for the plastic pump that came with it so we bought a 12-volt DC adjustable pump. The air chamber locks can be a bit tricky to learn to use but otherwise work well. We highly recommend this product.

We have been on class 3&4 rapids for years now in a Zoik. This year we decided to buy a new inflatable kayak with room for gear for overnight trips. This SeaEagle is awesome and handled very well. We took one 2.5 hour trip in water that was flowing about 2000 cfs. We loaded the kayak down with an ice chest, two dry bags, a 10-gallon bucket and still had some room. The chairs were very comfortable and an added bonus. You'll just need to play with adjusting them to suit your comfort. The paddles were very nice and were fully adjustable. The only complaint/observation I have is please be on the lookout of the drains on the floor of the kayak as you inflate. One turned sideways on us and we didn't notice until after we got out of the water. The sideways drain rubbed on the floor of the kayak. No puncture was noted, but it definitely had some wear. We are going to throw a patch on that spot as a precaution. Otherwise, we really loved our new inflatable kayak. It was a great purchase. I can't wait to take this boat on a 5-day river run in Utah in July!

It arrived two days earlier then expected. It's very tough and comfortable. We took it out to play on the lake. She sat up front I was in the back there was plenty of room for our cooler, dry box and life jackets. We did not use the skeg. After about a minute we had this boat down. It will turn on a dime. I can't wait to get it on the big water...9 months later,,, We love this boat. It handles 3's & 4's just like it is supposed to, one or two people (me 6'2", 250/her 5'3",125. Very tough and drains fast.

I've been out in the sea, on lakes, and in Class IV white water rapids in this kayak, and it handles all of them fantastically. On a lake, I've had two kids (one paddling, one just sitting) and I could easily have got a fourth person in there (if they were small). In the rapids, we gave it quite a lot of abuse, scraping over low lying rocks with two big (230+lb) people in it, but it hardly has a mark on it. In some places it completely (and I mean completely) filled with water, but it empties fast.It pumps up quickly, and it's surprisingly rigid when it's pumped up.In rapids, you really need to get the thigh straps, http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Eagle-Straps-Explorer-Kayaks/dp/B000TFVXXE/ref=sr_1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1400610130&sr=1-2&keywords=sea+eagle+thigh+straps which are kind of pricey, but there were times that the boat was tipped up at such an angle that without the straps I would have been thrown out. I have also found that for long paddles a foot rest helps too (I couldn't find that on the Amazon site), so budget an extra 150 if you want those. The paddles that come with it are really nice - better than any other kayak I've owned.

Although it's been too cold to get on the water we have set it up and checked it out. Out of the box, set up was less than ten minutes. First impression is that it's exremely well made and sturdy with the ability to carry tons of camping gear. The new model comes with a skeg that others have talked about so tracking on flat water should be okay and the paddles are good quality. This was purchased so my wife, 7 year old daughter, and I can get out with one boat. It's very roomy and comfortable. For this purpose the boat really fits the bill and it can be stored in a closet which makes it even more appealing. Sea Eagle makes a good product and is worth looking at if a craft of this type would fit your style.
