I've used it three times for overseas trips and it's already starting to fall apart. The samsonite badge on the front has fallen off and it looks scuffed and messy. If it survives next year I'll be surprised.

I bought this suitcase (28 inch) for a trip to Asia in 2015. It’s journeyed to a number of countries and continents since (and survived a lot of shorter domestic legs full of holiday gifts, thanks to the expansion zipper feature). Sadly, it is now retiring to the great luggage belt in the sky due to a fracture along the base of the front hard shell. However, given the cost (I think I paid the current sale price of around $200), the mileage it has, and the seven years it’s traveled, that is a very acceptable life span, and I recommend this bag.A few notes after many years of use:-The hard shell did a fantastic job protecting contents. I love to shop and collect china and ceramics - I wrapped things up well before putting them in this suitcase and not one thing ever arrived broken. Even after it developed some give in the front shell, and was prone to pop in - this started after a recent trip when I can only assume it was pretty violently handled.-The bag is very light for its size to help with airline weight restrictions.-It’s pretty maneuverable. Newer Samsonites have smoother, easier wheels, but these still did the job and never broke.-The exterior on the silver gray didn’t overly show wear and tear. Although really anything but a fabric bag is going to show the abuse these bags receive. Unlike a fabric bag, this one has kept everything nice and dry on airline baggage carts parked in rain.-It’s an easier shape/design to spot on a luggage carousel than most bags, which is a nice bonus.-Excellent zippers. I have maxed bag capacity out on a number of occasions and the zippers have performed perfectly.

SUMMARY:This review is on the large, checked, 28", Samsonite Winfield suitcase.Thought you'd appreciate a review from someone who's lived out of this thing for weeks on end, and has used it for years. In all, I've had this for 4 years. Probably 40-50 flights.I am exclusively a first-world traveler. No wild trips through Indian markets or anything. Mostly Cosmopolitan cities, predominantly in North America.Longest trips have been 35 days (multiple cities, so 5-6 flights over 35 days). It's now broken, so I need to replace it.I'm re-buying it, not because it's been amazing, but it's been good enough, and it's now familiar to me and has always been accepted on flights around the world, so I'll get it again.DURABILTY- junction with wheel - broken, unrepairable, have to buy new suitcase altogether (see pic)- zippers - amazing, as if new; really quite astonishing; zippers absolutely one of the highlights of this suitcase!- handle - sturdy enough; a bit of flex, but never in doubt- outer shell - scratches fairly easily, but if you get the carbon-looking finish, they hide well (see pic)- wheels - roll really well, almost as newINSIDE:- fairly basic, gets the job done- compartments do decent job of keeping things organized- combined with a toiletry kit and a few organizers, I've lived out of this for up to 35 days at a timeDESIGN:- I really like how there's no wasted space with unnecessary outer pockets; you're checking this bag, so any storage compartment on outside is useless and only reducing how much free space you get inside- expansion feature - zippers very strong; multiple times I've packed this luggage with expansion panel open, closed suitcase's main zipper, then knelt on suitcase to squish, then force-zipped the expansion panel closed (to make overall suitcase smaller to maneuver) and it worked, no zipper splits or anythingI'm disappointed this broke after just 4 years, but it's done a good job while I had it. At $190 to re-purchase, I'm willing to give 4 Stars.P.S. Yes, I know Samsonite has limited 10-year warranty, but - TBH - I can't be bothered for $190. I also can't wait - my next trip is too soon to deal with warranty work.

This suitcase was definitely worth the purchase. It's lightweight, sturdy, and can hold a lot of clothes. I like the fact it has a zippered compartment inside so it can keep everything in place, as well as two smaller zippered compartments for all the toiletries.I purchased the grey option and after a few trips around the rough and tumble airport transfer stations it does show a few scratches. But the way I look at it, a few scratches outside is better than having the inside items damaged.

So far so good it made it with no damage or scratches from Canada to Ft Lauderdale and this was on two separate flights. The actual luggage looks amazing and easy to travel with. It has large compartments and will hold a lot of luggage. It also arrived on the day it was suppose to. The only thing weird was the delivery. One suitcase was delivered by Purolator and the other one came by Canada Post, I am not too sure why but in the end they arrived and I like them.

I travel a LOT for work. And I'm an over-packer. So this is the perfect bag for me. First off, it looks quite fab...the eggplant purple color looks better in person and is quite unique and stylish. This has been on 4 round trips cross country with me now and tho scratched up a bit and lost her little "Samsonite" label tag (sad face), she's otherwise in great shape and appears ready for anything. I have dragged my little travel companion here over rocky parking lots, gravel, cobblestones, dodgy carpets, up and down endless escalators, up and down concrete hotel stairs, lugged her into and out of innumerable taxis and rental cars...and she's still in prime shape, ready for her next adventure. No problems ever with zipper or wheels or general sturdiness AT ALL. Very lightweight! Wheels being spinners take all the pressure off you so no pulling or pushing...it's like walking a well behaved little dog that trots alongside you. Love the "expander" that lets you pack more stuff than you planned! They zip down if not needed too. Great feature.Last week I took this to San Fran for a 3 day trip and it held WITH expander open all this: gym bag completely filled with gym gear and shoes, 2 pairs calf length boots, 1 pair regular heels, 3 extremely bulky sweaters, 3 pairs jeans, pajamas, couple t-shirts, necessities, a bubble wrapped glass candle to scent the hotel room, makeup bag approximately 12" x 12" x 3" (it takes a Village...!) and more stuff - and I STILL had a bit of room left. Note that I didn't "roll up" clothes - just folded some and others just "stuffed in" as I was on the rush. So if you did it properly and cared about such things, I'm sure it could hold a small closet especially if it were just your summer clothes. On one non business trip, we packed a King sized blanket and pillow in one and a giant leaf blower in another one with 2+ foot lengths of driftwood jammed in as well, no problems. Yes. It's amazing what this can handle.Only downside is this thing IS huge. If expander is open, I hate using escalators bc it gets a bit dodgy sitting on the little step correctly - so I just use elevators then, no issue It might just be me who finds this tricky tho. Hoisting it into and out of my rental car is always is fun but that's true of any giant bag like this. Wish it wouldn't scratch so much but that's true of all hard shell bags also and it doesn't mar how cute it is. I LOVE the purple eggplant color! Still looking good after lots of abuse and scratching really isn't so bad considering all the flights this thing has been on and the abuse I've subjected her to. It's always the ONLY hard shell purple case on the baggage carousel so very easy to look for. As I can't be bothered to figure out the lock it came with, I just use my regular luggage lock and it works perfectly all together. If you need a BIG bag that's sturdy and reliable, and looks fab as well, this is the One!

I took this case on a trip to Europe and Asia for 2 weeks, and i'm pretty pleased with the performance. It's quite spacious and allowed me to hold a week's worth of clothing plus other checked items (dopp kit, etc), and it stood up to handling pretty well. The handle could feel a bit more sturdy/not-wiggle a little, but that's my only issue. As for scratches, i had a couple of scuffs and a 2 inch scratch on it by the end of the trip (from handling) but overall, the finish still looks good, and there were no issues with the wheels nor the zipper & lock. The has a 2-zipper main zipper, plus an extra zipper if you need a little more room for the suitcase to expand (i didn't); the lock is a TSA-approved lock that secures the twin zippers thru holes in the pulls, and has a 3-digit combination you can set and re-set. Inside has linings in both compartments; one compartment has a zippered cover, and the other side has locking cross-belts to hold back your clothing. The suitcase itself is surprisingly light, so even loaded up, i think it weighed maybe 25 pounds for me.

This was my first hardshell suitcase I have owned. I travel frequently and always see them and decided I wanted to purchase one. After having read many reviews I settled on this particular suitcase accounting for what I felt was the best value. I have been very pleased with this suitcase. I find it very easy to pack (even though I have never packed a dual side suitcase like this) and holds a ton of clothing - seriously. Also, the hardshell exterior looks really sleek, the handles and overall construction is solid, and the wheels are 360 degree swivel. The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because the exterior paint seems to scratch relatively easy. Other than that, however, I found this to be the best value hardshell suitcase on the market and was very pleased with my purchase.
