Nice if very expensive product. Did not come with enough spare parts to properly assemble it. So now I have to either mail back a VERY heavy product, or contact the company, or go to a hardware store. All for a 5 cent washer and some bolts. Caveat Emptor

NONE of the washers that came with the Salamander Designs Archetype 3.0 Black FIT!!! The hole is too small So I have a rack that I can not put together. How can a company not have an quality control in place before packing and sending out items to customers? The photo has two washers, the one on the left came with the 5 shelf version I purchased. The one on the right came with the 3 shelf version. I will message the company about this, but so far they have not emailed me about the damaged shelf from the other order.

I bought the black one . They don’t have espresso . Cheap, ugly and smells disgusting. On the picture you don’t see how it looks in real life and especially for this money.

I’ve owned several pieces of Salamander’s Archetype furniture since the early 2000s and recently added a couple more. They all still look like new. Very easy to assemble and VERY sturdy. I actually use mine as bookcases and vinyl (record) shelves, with some heavy art objects on top. They’re like a rock. Absolutely recommended.

The best audio stands. I have about 5 of these and they’ve held up for years. Easy to assemble and infinitely adjustable . Super sturdy and lots of add on options like drawers and spiked feet. This is the first time I bought in black and the matt finish is really nice and looks like it will hold up for a long time.If you’re looking for a great all around rack, this is it. No, it’s not like a Billy Bags rack but will do in most applications.

Compared to some other small AV racks in this price range, the Salamander came in far better packaging and thus, at least arrived undamaged. I set in to the assembly process which actually turned out to be simple, but no escaping that it's tedious. I found that covering a flat surface with a towel and lining up the rods was the simplest way to set the leveling for the first two shelves. You can even use the supplied flat wrench as a line tool to see if your bolts are straight. This made the middle and the bottom shelves level before I even started. The rest was just turning and turning and turning the bolts onto the rods. Tedium defined. The unit is very sturdy and well made even if less than attractive and very inudustrial in person. That said, it turned out to be too small for the room.

I have a tiny office in which I set up my audio gear, so the dimensions of the Archetype 3.0 were a perfect fit for my needs. It is plenty stable. I have it on a cement floor, though, and doubt I'm ever going to be jostling it around on purpose. As for putting it together, it's rather simple with the included level and wrench, and even though my floor is far from level, the thread ends on the caps that go on top were just long enough to level the top - critical since I put my turntable up there.Once it's put together it really looks quite sharp. I must admit to almost buying a competitive product because I was worried the Archetype would look odd, but it is very clean looking sitting there with all my gear on it. What I like, perhaps most of all is that I have just enough room for another shelf when and if I decide I need one. I won't have to buy a completely new rack.It is everything I expected. Nice product.

So I had been searching far and wide for a good quality home theatre rack for my AV Receiver and Amplifiers. I have two Emotiva products (XPA-3 and UPA-700) and an Onkyo Receiver(TX-NR1009). Previously I was using a home theatre entertainment center that I had built with my dad and am still using it for all my other components but was looking for something that I could use that was not enclosed and with adequate airflow. I didn't want to spend and arm and a leg and also wanted something that was heavy duty and nice looking. I accidentally stumbled upon the Salamander website and found EXACTLY what I was looking for. As soon as I found which rack I wanted I went straight to Amazon to search for it and I found it.The build is exceptional. Heavy duty indeed. Like some other reviewers mentioned, the rods are threaded and takes sometime to screw the bolts and washers on so be prepared to spend at least an hour to assemble. You WILL need a tape measure and a level to make sure the screws are all on the same level and that your shelves are not uneven. You may have to do a little trial and error. The threaded rods are tedious but don't really take that long if you know how to screw them. It comes with a wrench for the bolts. I would suggest using your hand to screw the bolts and use the wrench to tighten them once they are in place with the shelves. All in all, this unit is sturdy, high end and works perfectly shelving my home theatre equipment. Highly recommend.
