Full disclosure, not sure if I misread the product description or they've changed it since I ordered this, but I thought these were pre-seeded pods rather than a kit of the individual items. Not a huge deal because it takes about 6 minutes to get these going and 5 of those minutes are just to presoak the pods. The price for the 8 pod set, currently $20, is reasonable for what you get and likely less than it would be if you purchased everything individually. The food refills alone average around $10, lettuce seed packets around $2-3 each, item by item the value is there. On the subject of the food, Food A took almost 15 minutes with multiple shakes to dissolve completely, so I suggest filling that bottle with water before you even start presoaking the pods. Also if you're new to hydroponic gardening, do yourself a favor and DO NOT get impatient and add food that's "mostly dissolved so I'm sure it will be fine" because that is a great way to mess up your water pump (she says, having replaced a water pump when she was new to hydroponic gardening).I have a Growell system and the grow baskets in this set fit but only just, they're slightly larger than the ones that came with the system. The sponges are standard issue peat sponges and identical to every other one I've ever used. The foil stickers unfortunately cause the grow domes to not fit around the lip of the grow baskets, so they're just sort of sitting on top and they're light enough that even walking past them too fast is enough to knock them over. I've never had any issues with algae so I opted to not use them, but if you choose to, you may want to use a bit of tape to hold them in place.I started 2 pods each of each seed type, with 75% germination within 5 days. One of the red romaine pods didn't do anything, and since there were 3 seeds in the pod, I have to wonder if it's something about the pod itself, but 75% germination is acceptable, especially since this kit includes a very generous amount of seed. All in all, if you're looking for a starter lettuce kit, this is a good option for the price.

I little more complicated to set up than Expected. Have started my seeds and they are now growing. Want to tell you that the seed pods work really well and we have been enjoying fresh lettuce for weeks. Overall the process was very easy and the company was very responsive to my review. They even wanted to give me a refund!

The design is a good to germinate the seeds. It is easy to move them to the garden. I can continue to add some garden soil to the plastic tubes for the different vegetables.

I will admit that I have gotten lazy by the super easy solutions of AeroGarden and just drop the pods in and you are done, with a germination guarantee. Plus, their feeding solution is all-in-one and not two different measurements each time. Of course, their products are also higher priced and I have been looking for a different solution, especially since I fell in love with hydroponics. These replacement/regrowing pods take several steps before you are ready to stick them into your garden, like sticking the growing medium in the baskets, the seeds in the medium, and then even putting the labels on the pods. I skipped the labels part since I have always found them to be cumbersome towards the end of the harvesting and cleanup. Not all of the seeds produced anything, but the ones that did grew some very beautiful lettuce that kept my family in salads. Also, romaine lettuce is so much better for you than most of the others, in-part because of the ruffage. (🤓Helpful Hint: You would have to eat a literal ton or more of iceberg lettuce too get any nutritional value from it. Then if you add even a drop of salad dressing, other than Italian or vinaigrettes, then all you are doing is eating empty calories.) I can't say that I recommend these pods, but I also can't say that you should stay away from them. If it was possible, I would give these a 3.5 or neutral rating.🐻 *Statement/Disclaimer: This review is part of Amazon's Vine Program which provides products at a reduced cost in exchange for sincere/frank reviews.
