I am not an electrician but I have done quite a few home wiring projects. The quality of this three pole on-off-on rotary switch is better than I expected for the price. The included plastic junction box (3 x 4.3 x 4.3) is deep/wide to fit the rotary switch but tight with routing wires. The box does not come with the neutral or ground box ties but, being a plastic box, I would use wire nuts or lever wire connectors anyways. It is thin but still stiff enough to use. The kit includes silicone knockout seals but working with higher currents and possible 3-phase, you should definitely use box cable clamps. Apparently the knockouts are sized for the silicone seals and not a standard size. The knockouts will need to be enlarged for standard 1/2" or 3/4" wire clamps and then firmed up with some steel reducing knockout washers. The rotary switch is heavy duty and looks robust enough for its purpose. The label on the switch has the thermal AC-1 continuous current rating of 40 amps, AC-23 (switching of motor loads or other highly inductive loads) is 30KW or 40hp, and AC-15 (control of AC electromagnetic loads) is 14 amps. Switching DC circuits, the switch is rated at 11 amps, DC-13 (control of DC electromagnetic). The screw terminals look good for a wire size of 10 AWG but look a little small for 8 AWG. Reviewers of similar rotary switches recommend not over tightening the terminal screws as it can cause separation of the individual switch circuits.I will use the switch to connect an under cabinet instantaneous water heater to our 240VAC 30AMP electric dryer circuit. All it takes is forgetting I cannot run both at the same time and turning on the hot water tap while the dryer is running and tripping the breaker. This 40AMP switch will eliminate that problem. We will leave the switch on position 1 for the water heater and switch to position 2 when we need to use the dryer. I also like that the switch has the isolated center “0” off position which you switch through when going from load to load.So for the price, a good rotary switch for a home project.

Good beefy switch. I took it out of the case for panel mounting. I’m using it in a power box to switch inputs between an internal and external battery. It seems to be well made.
