The RØDE VideoMic is a professional grade 1/2" condenser shotgun microphone designed for use with consumer video cameras and personal audio recorders. The integrated Rycote shock mounting system isolates the VideoMic capsule and electronics from its all-metal shoe mount, providing isolation from external physical factors that may cause unwanted rumble and vibrations in the microphone. Its standard sized shoe mount also includes a 3/8" thread in the base for easy mounting on the included boom pole and adaptor. The On Stage MBP7000 boom pole is machined from a sturdy and lightweight aluminum, which allows you to mount your microphone securely and follow your sound source with ease. It features three telescopic rods that utilize a twist-and-lock system, creating quick, simple and efficient settings extending the length from 3.1-8.1 feet. This package also includes a 25 ft. extension cable in order to connect the Videomic to your camera when mounted on a fully extended boom pole. Its super cardioid polar pattern is highly directional, focusing on the subject in front of the camera, and minimizing any surrounding sounds. In addition to the microphone's native 40Hz-20kHz response a selectable high-pass filter at 80 Hz is available, which will prevent low end noise such as air conditioners and traffic from being recorded. A -10 dB and -20 dB level attenuation (or PAD), selectable from inside the battery compartment, allows recording of loud sound sources, such as live music or motorsport. The new RØDE VideoMic features an integrated shock mount based on Rycote Lyre technology. Constructed from a single piece of hard-wearing thermoplastic, the Lyre provides superior acoustic suspension to traditional elastic solutions, and will never wear out, sag or snap. The RØDE VideoMic directional on-camera microphone is covered by RØDE Microphones' industry-leading 10-year warranty.

Even with a new 9V battery, the Mic was picking up hardly anything. Only picked up white noise and small hair of yelling , when I tried to yell directly into it. This product failed me on the day of a shoot that needed this set up. Thank you Rode. That is why DJI mics are better. Ended up using my DJIs and taped it to the pole that I got with this package.

The Rode microphone is a great simple entry microphone for filming the kids media studies assignments and interviews however the boom pole that was sent was already broken and didn't click in and hold tight so it collapses, will have to tape it together to stop it from collapsing as I was expecting a functional boom pole when instead I was sent a pole that doesn't lock in place. Disappointed with this and would like to return pole for working one that stays in place when you twist arms to lock in place.

When my VideoMic Pro died I was hesitant to upgrade to the Pro+ and I'm glad I didn't. This mic performs great, has an excellent mount and is just as functional as my old Pro was. Great value!

This mic works great for producing videos on my DSLR. Background noise is minimal and ease of use is great. One note for Canon users: my first attempt at using this lead me to believe that the microphone was defective. You need to push very hard on the audio connector to fully seat it into the camera's microphone connector. The cable doesn't want to fully seat and, as a result, doesn't connect without a lot of pressure.

I love this microphone, I have been taking it on shoots for over a year now and it's been working great. Does produce a little noise in the back ground but this can be avoided by getting a tascam or something to record levels as well as minor noise reduction tweaks in post.

Incredible sound quality when recording internally from the Sony a6300, the extension cable that comes with the kit is very useful when mounting the mic on the boom pole and gives quite a bit of freedom. The build quality and the mount shock absortion are very good, also the plastic build makes it very light. Something specific to the a6300 is that it gets uncofortable to look through the EVF, but still possible, when mounted on the hotshoe and in some lenses when shot at wide angles the mic can be seen (SELP1650 at 16mm, Rokinon 12mm, SEL16F28).The low frequency filter really improves everything when recording in busy areas.Another thing is that sometimes one might forget to turn it on, missing audio recordings, or to turn it off, wasting battery.

I bought this mic to get better sound quality than what the on-camera mic produced. To be honest I can't tell much of a difference but I know to do interviews and blog it's better to have a quality, directional mic to do so. The price was more reasonable to me also having included a boom pole and extension cable. I use the factory settings and it sounds beautiful so far. Had to buy a 9 volt battery for it.

Presently, this is the best mic I own. I use it mainly for production sound on videos and short films that I make. I've not had to change the battery once, which is surprising considering the many shoots I've used it on that have lasted hours each. I use it with a Zoom H1 and everything I point this mic at sounds beautifully crisp. The boom pole is also very light and easy to use, which is quite a valuable feature on set/on location. The only time this mic has performed sub-par is when I use it plugged in to my camera (a Canon T5i). Though, I can't fault the mic for that, since Canon treats audio very much like an afterthought.

I will be the first to admit, I do not know a lot about shotgun microphones. I needed something simple and easy to use with my new Canon G3X for when I was filming sit down videos. I wanted that crisper sounding audio. This microphone is PERFECT for that. I had it hooked up set up and was using it in a matter of minutes! I have never worked with an external microphone before, so the simplicity of this mic is amazing!Pros: Very lightweight, Easy to setup, Battery OperatedCons: Blocks flip up screen Because this microphone connects to a hot shoe on my camera, my flip up screen is useless. I get around it by connecting it to another camera for now Eventually I will buy a tripod mount to correct this issue.
