It quickly melts 3 in. wide heat bond tape, keeps a cooler top shield temperature, and minimizes heat transfer to the carpet to prevent damage to the carpet. Even on the highest setting of 425°F, the patented Cool Shield technology reaches a maximum heat shield temperature of 256°F. This heat bond iron has an adjustable thermostat with heating indicator light, the “S” shaped heating element in this iron provides even heating and longer heat retention. It features a double heat shield to minimize deformities of carpet backing and face yarn. It has a "comb profile" end on the soleplate that forms ridges in the adhesive, delivering stronger carpet seams. The top heat shield stays up to 175° cooler than the soleplate. It has a convenient 3-way cord adjustment that keeps the 9-1/2 ft. cord out of the way during installation. Its streamlined low-profile design, with grooved non-stick soleplate, ensures fast, easy cleanup.

Normally I don't have any problem with "Used" items since they often are actually open box returns. From the looks of the box, this had been dropped hard and the Iron was driven into the holder, damaging the Teflon coating on the sole plate and leaving some burrs. The clips on the holder were tweaked but could easily have been bent back into place, if not for the damaged sole plate.Returned for refund. Don't know if I'll buy the same model, but it does look like a well-made iron that could use better packaging to protect the working surface from being damaged by mishandling.

works good. took a while to get to me. but nonetheless it does what its supposed to. Also it was advertised without the tray and it ended up coming with the tray so that was a plus

The tray was broken when received. I pop riveted it together. It is so cheap! Iron won't lock into it like the old ones. A seven foot cord guarantees that you'll always need an extension cord. The temperature knob won't stay on setting. All that said, the iron heats well and has worked for a month. Roberts was a name that once stood for somethiing, but has gone the way of Crain and others. Just keep making it cheaper and cheaper until voila! No more market.

This works okay but storing it is a pain. The bottom plate is rather flimsy and falls off. Honestly I do not know how to store this to ensure that it will not get dinged. With care it will dofine.

This seaming iron is ideal for professional carpet installers. Heavy-Duty! I've only used it on three jobs since getting it last week and so far, so good! Heats as it should and cleans up well.
