The Amazon listing says "Quicksilver 8172771 Water Pump Gasket." Under the brand on the Amazon listing page it says "Quicksilver." But what I received was a repackaged gasket. Is it OEM? Or is it aftermarket? Also there is nothing in the new packaging that assures you that it is indeed an original OEM part. Nor is there any explanation as to why it has been repackaged. The seller may have bought them as OEM in bulk quantities and repackaged them individually, or they may have bought some other brand. And even if this time it is OEM who knows what you may get next time since they make no representation that it is OEM.There is no Mercury or Quicksilver dealer where I live. I need to mail order all my parts and if I don't have it on hand I have down time until it comes in. So I try to get OEM parts because I know they will fit and work, and I pay a premium over aftermarket parts to get OEM -- and I want to KNOW when I open the box that they ARE, in fact, OEM. After all, that assurance is what I pay extra for.The gasket looks decent enough. I haven't used it because I bought it for inventory so I can't say if it works as expected or not but in this location it is not that critical of a seal. The water pump has raw water both outside the housing and inside the housing. The seals around the housing and at this gasket only have to be good enough to pump water, not 100% leak proof. -- If you have done one of these water pumps then you know that the sling seal on the drive shaft atop the pump housing can not possibly be 100% water tight. I do not think that a pinhole size leak at this gasket would make much difference to the function of the water pump.BUT if this were a more critical part I'd be sending it back and ordering a replacement from another supplier that comes in OEM packaging. Sorry, but I doubt I'll be ordering from this particular supplier again.
