- Removes the most persistent need to glue up the average sump pump outlet.- Saves some cuts of PVC over an in line option.- Threads right into most pumps 1/2hp and up. Hose clamps to the 1.5" PVC.- puts check valve under water, should help with sound.- keeps a wide path. Many other combos choke down for 1.25" fitting options.- Fit well on 2 style pumps. Was close enough on one that the hose clamp had to come off to rotate.- Cheaper and less pressure head added than in-line hose clamp options.Big box stores have similar on websites for delivery or pickup, but they stock the more expensive, less handy options only. 4 day pickup wait, or AMZ overnight... guess who wins.

PROS:Since it lives in the sump pit, if it fails it won’t create a flood.It will be quieter since it is mounted under the sump cover, even without being a spring-loaded, quiet design.Since it is mounted directly on the sump discharge port, it will totally eliminate redundant water pumping that results from the water in the discharge pipe flowing back down the pipe when the pump turns off. With a check valve mounted in the discharge pipe, the water in the pipe below the check valve will flow back into the pit and need to be pumped back out. With a checkvalve mounted directly to the pump’s discharge port, no water will flow back into the pit and need to be pumped back out again.CONS:The discharge pipe is mounted in a rubber connector rather than directly to the pump’s threaded discharge port. Discharge pipes tend to move/shake a bit when sump pumps activate hence this type of connection may add more stress to the fairly thin plastic check valve. So this check valve design may create more risk of breakage.Since this check valve is mounted at the lowest point possible, the water that flows back down the discharge pipe when the pump turns off and is stopped by the check valve will be higher-volume (and hence weigh more) than the volume and weight of the water that would be stopped by a check valve mounted higher up on the discharge pipe. So that higher water volume will place greater stress on the check valve and may increase the risk of a check valve failure.All in all, we like this design, but feel more confident in using a more conventional set up where the discharge pipe is screwed directly into the pump’s discharge port and the check valve is mounted higher on the pipe.That said, there is nothing inherently bad about this product. So we have rated it five stars.

I really like how quiet this valve operates. It is also very easy to install. Remember that you need a flex coupling on your upright pipe in order to perform maintenance on the pump. Definitely a good product.

The sump pump that came with our house was quite loud and had a normal check valve that had a massive THUNK sound every time it engaged. Our sump pit is in the room directly below our boys room so it would wake him up occasionally, which was not a good time. I replaced the sump pump with a Red Lion RL-SC50T which is also VERY quiet, and this check valve is indeed silent. I used to be able to hear the pump and check valve from anywhere in the house, and now I can only hear it from a couple feet away. If the loud thunk sound drives you nuts and you currently have a loud pump, I'd buy the combo of the Red Lion and this check valve...... It's been great and I can't recommend it enough. Install was super easy as well; 3 wraps of teflon tape, thread it into your pump outlet and clamp it to your existing ABS or PVC pipe and you're good to go. Couldn't be easier. I've had this installed for about 3 months and it's still quiet and working great.
