Why not replace this antiquated design with a specially designed mini latch? These push button latches are a perfect finishing touch to a custom build on a carbureted vehicle. Love the low profile of the latch system. I had very little clearance between the hood and the top of the air-cleaner and this did the trick. And it looks clean!

I have 454 in my 71 Nova, and the air cleaner barely fits under the hood. The wing nut to hold it down on the carb interfered with the stock hood closing.This device fits flush with the top of the air cleaner, looks really clean, and does a great job.It solved a huge problem for me, and allowed me to use the stock hood instead of an aftermarket one with a scoop.Great product.

Awesome product, I didn’t even know these existed. made for a nice clean air cleaner install on a carbed SBC, soo much better than a stud with wing nut.

I love the look and operation of these latches.. I've used them several times. The only issue I have with them is if you're using them for an air cleaner lid.. you may need to make an extension for the threaded portion. Not a big deal, just letting folks know that if you're using a taller air filter it may not be a drop in fit. Great product.
