2014 VW Touareg factory tow hitch was already installed and wired when I bought the vehicle used. There was a black plastic plug cover (VW part number 7L5 971 885) screwed to a metal plate on the tow hitch bar which the factory wire harness plug was attached to. This was not something I expected when I bought the vehicle as other vehicles in the past have had a 7 blade receptacle already installed from the factory. I initially bought a Hopkins model number 40950 (7 blade and 4 pin combination) which looked like the same bolt/screw pattern but was not the correct size. The holes did not line up so I returned that. This fit perfectly and I was able to use the screws that came with the tow hitch. Literally needed nothing other than a screw driver and about 2 minutes to install. As far as the years this fits there is a range of vehicles that use the same hitch. I believe 2012-2017 Touareg but additionally there is the Cayenne and Q7 which should use the same hitch for at least 2012-2014 model years. Basically if your hitch is VW part number 7P0 803 881 D then this will fit.

No clue why VW doesn’t just sell their pre-wired hitches with this. I tried three other adapters that just didn’t fit. On a random search I came across a video where a man pulled off the plastic part that comes over the wiring and quickly installed this with the original screws. So easy! Shouldn’t have wasted my time at auto part stores. If you have a Volkswagen, buy this!In order to get this to work with my pop up camper, I bought an other small adapter, works like a charm.

Great product at a Great Price !The Local VW dealership wanted $140.oo for the same plug, said my 2020 VW Atlas would have to be program before the plug would work, that was another $85.oo, and the labor would be $145.oo to install. That's $370.00 not including Tax . . . . . . .OOOOOOuch !AVOID THE DEALER PRICE GOUGING !DIY . . . . . remove 4 screws and the cover plate. Connect the Pollak Socket to the wiring harness plug and put the 4 retaining screws back in. The install time was about 5 minutes and my 2020 VW Atlas needed NO programing. Tools required was a Phillips Head screwdriver !

I verified the part numbers through my local VW dealership. This is the correct trailer hitch wiring connector for 2021 VW ID.4 1st edition or if your car came equipped with the trailer hitch (Pro S) There is a blank plate installed just to the right (passenger side) of the receiver. Remove the screws and pop off the blank plate cover that was installed by the factory (save the screws) You'll need to reach your finger up inside to hold the cars wiring harness connector still while you push up on the little red tab to unlock the connector. (I used a tiny flathead screwdriver) then pull down the blank plate cover then slide this Pollack unit up in the hole till your hear/feel them click together. You will probably have to slide a finger up in there to hold the car side connector still while snapping it in.. Then just replace the screws and you're done. **Side note** the car will not send a 12 volt current to the connectors until it senses a load (multiple lights) like a trailer connected. If you decide to test the connections with a multimeter before connecting a trailer you will not get a 12 volt signal but it should not be broken and there's nothing wrong with the connector. Go find a trailer to test it out with. I drove down to my local U-Haul facility and just connected to one of their trailers in the yard to test it. Hope this helps. Please give a thumbs up if it did

I opted to hard wire an OEM plug & play harness into my older truck's towing harness, which will make it very easy to swap out this receptacle if it ever fails. It also makes for a virtually weather-proof gasketed connection on the back of the socket; and all of my harness wiring is permanently soldered and heat-shrink wrapped.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Q87T6E/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I drilled a 2" hole and surface mounted into bumper using stainless screws for a finished look. Plus the receptacle and wiring are a lot more protected up there behind the frame from water, dirt, and rocks than hanging down by the hitch on a flimsy rusty bracket. This receptacle has holes that are spaced 2.5" apart horizontally and 1.75" apart vertically, which is a lot different than the 1.5" x 2.25" hole pattern on the cheaper common plugs and mounting plates, so be aware of that. The receptacle is protected by a thick cover with a rubber gasket, which is hinged with a heavy stainless steel spring and rod. There are weep holes in the bottom as well as the sides in case you mount it 90 degrees. I don't know what the blades are made from or if they'll ever rust, but they're permanently sealed into the base of the housing with a type of hard silicone rubber or similar. The whole thing also feels way more solid compared to the cheap $10 receptacles you get at the hardware store.EDIT: After 10 days installed, I used it a few times without any problems. It's also been raining almost every day and the hinge pin and spring are definitely stainless steel... still shiny with no corrosion whatsoever. The electrical blades inside also look like new with no corrosion from the constant rain/moisture. Previously I was having trouble with water inside my old connector causing my electrical brake controller to go haywire. So far no trouble at all.
