Didn't realize that I previously did a Pentair water quality test almost 3 years ago until after I got the results for this test kit last month. It seems that Pentair is now including levels for Alkalinity, Chlorine (Total and Free), and Chloramines, but left out Total Coliform, Chloride, and Tannin.Based on other reviewers it seems that most have a red status for Alkalinity but stable pH levels, perhaps to cause an alarmist reaction to have people purchase their water treatment products. The test itself is simple to perform and send in, but the ziplock bag it comes with barely fits the plastic water sample bottle.

This is just a preliminary review of the kit and the process. I will be using this kit on well water from a well that has been out of service for 40 years. I'm waiting on the well company to get me a pump installed before I can obtain the sample that I need to get this test done properly. Since it has been sitting for so long, I don't want to just send a container down for a sample, I want to run the pump for 15 or 20 minutes to remove any stagnant water that may be there. The kit arrived quickly and is nicely put together. The process seems well thought out and professional. I'm looking forward to getting on with it. I'm giving 4 stars for now which is about average of other reviews because I don't want to make an impact on the average before actually being able to get results. Once that gets done I will update this with a proper review.Review for: Pentair OMNIFilter Mail-in Home Water Test Kit 2406-036

This test was easy to use. You just fill the container with water, and send it in. You will get an email with a breakdown of what was found in your water. It will tell you if it is in the acceptable range, or bad range. I have always wanted to test my water, because it doesn't taste good, so now I know whats in it, and what I can do to make it better.

I'm not sure why I chose to grab this. It's very educational, and I'm glad to know the shortcomings of my system but a lot of this is beyond an average consumers ability to understand. Still, if there's something specific you are looking to ensure is not in your water - this is a great and thorough test.

This is a quick and easy process and I was impressed at the test results.Following the directions:(1) Run your water for a few minutes(2) Fill the provided bottle.(3) Place the provided bottle in the provided bag.(4) Place the bag with the bottle in it, it back in the box.(5) Fill the information on the form and fold the form and place it in the box and seal the box.(6) Scan the provided QR code to get the shipping label. It took less than a week for my results to come back in an email. In the email, they provide 2 documents in PDF format. The first document explains the result sheet you'll receive. It's a general explanation of the test results and are not specific to your results. It will explain the status colors, the different types contaminants you are likely to find in your water, as well as the water hardness. The first document also includes a list of several "solutions" from Whole Home solutions to Undersink solutions. They also explain which solutions are designed for certain test results. For example, too much iron? Try this product? High hardness? Try this product. This is to be expected. Why else would they sell a water test kit, but to convince you that you need their products. To be fair, I'm not saying the company IS doing anything underhanded, and there is no evidence of that. What I Liked:-Every part of the process was just easy.-Everything I needed was included. What I didn't like:CON #1 - I don't like that there's not a 3rd party laboratory involved to test the water. The water is being tested by the company that also sells the products to filter your water, so how can I be assured of transparency when it is in their labs' best interest to convince me I need their products?I was tempted to send in a sample of distilled water just to see if the results were accurate.CON #2 - A 2-pack would be a better option so I could do a before & after test.If you drink enough water, you can taste the difference in water, so you should be able to taste the difference in your tap water before and after you install a 'solution,' but it would be nice if they sold a 2-pack kit so you get comparison test results of the change. Still, there's no assurance they wouldn't just say your water is better, but I am trying to be optimistic about the position they're in.Conclusion: Overall, it's an easy process and you get very well explained results. On the other hand, it's a total "Trust me Bro" situation since the test results are provided by the company that sells the solution.

This water test would have cost me $70 if I had taken it to a test lab near my home. I had to wait a little for the results, but no problem for setting up my new softener. The test parameters include the following: Alkalinity, Arsenic, Copper, Fluoride, Hardness, Iron, Lead, Manganese, Nitrate, pH, Total Dissolved Solids, Turbidity, Chlorine (Total), Chlorine (Free), and Chloramines. The test was performed by Pentair, who manufactures and sells water treatment equipment. The test report will include their recommendations based upon the test results, but they will exert no pressure to use their products and make no annoying sales calls.

This report is super easy to send in and a great way to get information about your homes water. We had a sneaking suspicion that there is something about our water and that our water must be quite hard as sediment build up seems to be an issue everytime we used a table top water filter. So we looked into it by getting this test to find out we were right we were over the regulatory hardness level and over TDS. I am super happy that the results were very clear and gave recommendations are types of products to look at that may be able to help resolve the issues with our water. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking at the possibility that their water may need some work.
