I have used this product multiple times to "full wrap" katana handles when replacing the ito wrap on the tsukas. The skins are always clean and all excess flesh is removed. It is definitely ray skin as you can see the shape all the way down to the eye lids. This is not the decorative leather-like version of ray skin. It is like armor and you have to cut it with tin snips. I think the outside spines have been lightly sanded but there is still a very coarse texture. Great product and I will buy more from them as needed.

Soak in warm water and clamp it flat between boards to dry.

it arrived as it was described, but this stingray leather was VERY stiff. it does not move move or bend easily like other stingray leathers. it also isn’t polished/shiny like other stingray leather from the same company. it will suffice for a knife or sword handle, but not for items like wallets, purses, etc.
