It contains a battery compartment for an additional battery that takes over when the battery in the LUMIX GH5 has been depleted. A second shutter release improve the ergonomics of shutter release while holding the camera vertically. Like the LUMIX GH5, the grip is protected from harsh weather conditions (Splashproof / Dustproof / -10C Freezeproof).

Tried the cheaper non-Panny ones and they just don't work 100%. With this you can hot-swap batteries in the middle of long takes once it's switched over to body battery and it'll switch back to BG.

BUYER BEWARE!!! THIS SELLER SUBBED A GENERIC ‘REPLACEMENT’ BATTERY GRIP INTO THE PANASONIC PARTS BOX.I PAID OVER $300.00 WITH THE INTENT OF ACQUIRING ALL ORIGINAL PRTS FOR MY RIG BUT WAS SENT A GENERIC WORTH APPROXIMATELY $70.00 IN DISGUISE.I was actually not impressed with the build of this item as it won’t remain firmly aligned and tends to rotate slightly and inevitably on the base of the GH5. I had never purchased a battery grip before and I decided to ‘live with the annoyance’. It did not even occur to me to check the model serial number on the unit to make sure it was genuine Panasonic at the time...Now, nearly a year later, I held a friend’s camera with a genuine Panasonic Battery Grip and was instantly aware of the difference and it prompted me to check mine and, yup, I was duped.I realize it was my own fault for not examining the item more closely upon arrival but I’m angry as I assumed I would be able to trust the vendor. Seeing as it came in a genuine Panasonic parts box, it is clear that this was an intentional swap and close to a $250.00 scam.Avoid this seller. Be vigilant. Check your purchases 100%.

I rented two of these grips for a gig. They were so convenient and really gave me and my 2nd Cam enough breathing room to keep shooting. We only had to switch out batteries from our grips during production breaks. The batteries in the bodies were barely used. This purchase just came in recently and I'm as satisfied as I was when I rented them initially. The only thing I wish is that the camera didn't shut off when trying to hot swap. My little work-around is to make a conscious effort to switch to BODY Mode whenever I need to keep recording and then hot swap during. After recording is complete, I can then switch back to BG Mode. Other than that, it's a battery grip...that does battery grip things! :)

I ordered the grip for my GH5 on a whim, since it was cheaper than other places I had been looking and it arrived quickly and works perfectly. I have not put it through it's full paces yet, but it seems to function exactly how it should.

Pretty useless seeing as the camera shuts down before switching to the external battery pack. I returned but haven't received my refund yet.

Since there's currently no third-party option for a GH5 vertical grip this is the only choice - and typical Panasonic it's rock-solid and the extra battery life is a must-have on any pro shoot whether it's stills for filmmaking.

This just didn't do anything I was expecting it to do. I thought it would be a way to extend the battery life of my camera but at the end of the day it's just a way to make your camera heavier and allow you to have buttons in another place suited more for portrait orientation shooting. From that perspective I can see how it might be handy but for video this is a useless and unnecessary purchase to make.
