Osprey’s Farpoint 55 is the perfect companion for a long weekend. Feel free to add an extra sweater and a pair of waterproof boots; this pack is designed to handle loads up to 50 pounds. The LightWire frame suspension transfers the load from harness to hipbelt. A mesh backpanel improves ventilation and the mesh on the harness and hipbelt reduces chafing under load. The entire suspension stows away under a zippered panel creating a sleek silhouette for transport. Inside there’s a mesh pocket for small items. Dual compression straps keep cargo from shifting during transit. Outside you’ll find a zippered front panel slash pocket to keep you organized and sewn attachment points to lash on extra gear. The main Farpoint 55 pack comes with a detachable Farpoint daypack to carry the essential for a hike in the hills or an excursion downtown. No matter where you go, the Farpoint is backed by Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee.

There are stiching holes inside the bag near the upper handle area that lets in light when held against a light source. This looks like a manufacturing error since I ordered 3 different colors and each bag had these small holes inside. So frustrating to see those in a brand new bag.

Check out all the connections. There is one on top of the shoulders that hold the straps up. That makes the fit perfect!

Bought four of these, one for the wife and each of the kids. No regrets! Very adjustable, so from my 10 year year-old all the way up to my 6’2” son, this fit each of them. Exactly the same size and capacity as your standard roller board, but with the added benefit of the included separate day pack. No need to look anywhere else, just buy this pack!

This is our second bag. It’s great for airplanes. Remove the day pack as your personal item and the other as carry on. Placed flat in the overhead and we can bout our second bag on top which only really takes the same space as single others. When walking put the big one one your back and the small one on the front clipped to the rear bag and off you go

Upon delivery, open the package and confirmed that both backpacks were new and of good quality. After my first trip using them, I will provide further feedback, if any issues observed.

I'm traveling a lot for work and I was tired of lugging my small carry-on bag through airports and in and out of transit and taxi's. I was looking at some more expensive brands for a carryon sized backpack but I couldnt see the why I would want to pay $600+ for some options. I came across the Osprey Mens Fairpoint 55Travel Backpack and the thing just makes sense. I like how it has two bags attached to one another, one that can be used for personal item when flying and the other for carryon and your bulk travel items. The carry on bag part fits great in overhead and passes every TSA size check, and even fits under the seat in front of you in a pinch. Add to this the smaller bag which has the tech sleeves and smart storage options for a variety of items you might need on a flight. Great use of space. The thing I also appreciate are all the straps. The shoulder straps are comfortable, as is the waist strap and at capacity I feel comfortable carrying it on my back. The small bag can be attached either on the rear of the main bag OR you can. attach it on your front via small connecter snaps. Lastly I like how easily all the straps can be stored inside the bag with the cover.Really happy about this purchase

I fly every other weekend for work and have always used a hiking backpack but have to carry my computer in a separate backpack. My old pack was top loaded and was difficult to find things in. I wanted something i could unzip like a suitcase but that would carry on my back. Buying this bag has worked out well in all fronts. The main pack fits, full and stretched, in the small overhead bins on the little puddle jumpers (emb145) when everyone is valet tagging their hardcase carryon bags and rollaboards. The day pack is nice but not for me. It only has one main pocket and no internal compartments to speak of. I also couldn't figure out how to clip it in to the main bag. But no worries there, I threw some caribeeners on the main pack and snapped my old computer backpack on. Even double stacked, the two bags carry well with the osprey hip belt and chest strap keeping it all comfortable.

Could have more external pockets and I'd personally prefer a slightly larger daypack but otherwise great luggage. Super flexible.

Bought this for a 2 week trip to Italy. I knew we would be going to Rome, Naples, and Sorrento and didn't want to check luggage on my international flight which switched plane three times. It held enough clothes for a week (only brought the one pair of shoes I had on which saved space) with some room left for purchases abroad. The day pack is great for using daily while out adventuring. When we were arriving in different towns we just walked to our lodging so I wore the day pack clipped to the front steps so I had access to water bottles and top day pack pouch for phone and money right at my chest. Wearing the day pack clipped to the front also balanced out the weight. Very durable pack as well and of course Osprey life time guarantee.

I am a huge Osprey fan and this is my second pack from them. I also own the Atmos 65. But my issue with this bag is not the quality, but more that it doesn't really do anything very well. The day pack comes off in an odd way. You connect the straps through the actual pack itself. It doesn't attach very securely. That gives me apprehension checking it onto an airplane. If you do carry the whole thing on and both packs are full, it is going to be pretty difficult to get in the overhead bin if they even let you.Add to this that this pack is far more of a business bag than an outdoors pack, and it just gets muddled. If you are a business person who goes on hikes during business trips, this might work, but I'm not even sure that makes much sense. One other thing that bothers me is that there is a flap that can be zipped up to cover the pack's straps so you can check the bag more easily. But if you want to take the bag out on the trail, you have to roll the flap up and tuck it up underneath and it is very awkward. Overall, this is a high quality bag that is bombproof construction. I just don't know that it is very practical for business travel or hiking. Can't recommend this one.

Is it possible that I’m becoming an unintentional Osprey fanboy?Don't go with a bargain basement backpack. You don’t want a zipper to break or get stuck or a seam to rip open when you are away from home. That would be a super drag. In addition, cheap backpacks often have poor suspension systems, they can dig into your shoulders…yuck!A number of years ago I took up hiking. It is imperative to have a backpack, but what kind? Initially, I was going to use one of my kid's rejected bookbags, but they were too worn even for my simple needs. I then entered the world of hiking-specific backpacks and was quickly overwhelmed. You can buy backpacks that are pretty cheap or ones that are not only super-expensive but also sound like they are made of the same materials that are used in the space program. What to do, what to do? A savvy experienced hiker directed me to Osprey and I bought a mid-sized Osprey hiking backpack. Wow, it was an excellent bag. Why? Because whoever designed it really thought about what the bag was intended for, and the construction was top-notch. I liked my medium size hiking bag so much that several years ago I added a second (and smaller) hiking bag, also from Osprey. So if I already had a couple of Osprey backpacks why get this one? Bags are designed for specific reasons. Hiking backpacks (as an example) have all sorts of attachments and other enhancements used for hiking. I don’t need an ice-pick attachment point when I’m on vacation.Travel backpacks are designed more like luggage. For instance, the side of this main bag fully opens making packing much easier. A quality travel backpack, like this one, will also have features like the ability to completely hide the straps, as well as good carry handles on the side and the top of the bag.Osprey has combined suitcase features with its knowledge of hiking backpacks. In this regard, the bag suspension system is vastly superior to cheap bags, as is the construction and quality of materials. In addition, this is a dual-bag system. The 55L refers to both the main bag (40L) and the connected sister bag (15L) that can be used as a personal item on an airplane or a daypack in the field. When wearing both bags (when you are in transit) you can connect them together on your back or wear the main bag on your back and the sister bag on your chest in a turtle style. The latter configuration is more balanced, in my opinion. This bag (in its original form) has been out for some time and it is well-tested in the field. You can find many positive reviews, some where the bag had been used for almost a decade. However, the Farpoint 55 has been updated, so let's talk about those changes. The original main bag was taller, and its measurements exceeded many airlines’ requirements for a carry-on. Many travelers still used it as a carry-on, but you always ran the risk of having to check your bag. The new bag is compliant in size for most US airlines, at 22” x 14” x 9”. Of course, you need to remove the sister bag, which is easily stowed under your seat in most cases. Naturally, check your airline's website for specifics as my comment is a generalization. The already good strap suspension system and back ventilation system have been improved. In addition, the way that the sister bag attaches to the main bag is now done by clips, instead of a zipper. That is an easier option. The original bag was a nylon material, the new bag is a twist dobby recycled polyester that is Bluesign approved. OK, I have no idea what that means, but I do know that Osprey uses quality materials. In addition, there are some changes to the outside pocket configuration. Most backpacks are water-resistant, but you may want to consider buying a cheap waterproof bag cover if you are often out in the rain. The interior of both bags is simple and straightforward. The main bag has a couple of mesh pockets (always useful). There is also a hidden ID pocket. The straps on this bag can be easily stored and hidden. This gives the bag more of a suitcase look and also prevents the backpack straps from getting caught on things. The sister bag is attached to the main bag with clips. The sister bag has a laptop sleeve and a zippered pocket. This bag has a more traditional top opening. The laptop sleeve can also be used for a hydration bladder (bladder purchased separately), so you could definitely use it as a small backpack for day hikes if you desired.ProTipI would never consider myself a world traveler, but I’m an old guy so (based on time) I have traveled a lot. One of the most important things that I have learned when traveling, especially by air, is to travel as lightly as possible. This means using carry-ons. I have gone to Europe for 10 days with only a carry-on and was grateful that I did. There are two basic types of carry-ons, those with wheels and those without wheels. I have used both.I use wheeled bags when I have a single destination trip to a place that has smooth surfaces. I use a backpack when I’m traveling from place to place and/or if the surfaces (gravel/cobblestone) are rough. Remember, your back has to be strong enough to manage a backpack, but Osprey bags are designed to distribute the bag's weight in a reasonable fashion.I really love this bag and I feel that it will last me a very long time.
