NICHE PISTON

An ATV piston is a component of engines, pumps, and gas compressors. It is located in a cylinder and is made gas-tight by piston rings. In an engine, its purpose is to transfer force from expanding gas in the cylinder to the crankshaft through a piston rod and or connecting rod

Piston Anatomy

A piston is a cylindrical engine component that slides back and forth in the cylinder bore by forces produced during the combustion process. The piston acts as a movable end of the combustion chamber. The stationary end of the combustion chamber is the cylinder head.

Piston Components

ATV Piston components include the piston head, piston pin bore, piston pin, skirt, ring grooves, ring lands, and piston rings. The piston head is the top surface of the piston which is subjected to tremendous forces and heat during normal engine operation

Couldnt get rings into cylinder. Went to my local machine shop. Said rings are tight and won't fit when measured. Called the niche support line. But they sell so many parts and just were not able to give me tech support I needed. Found a top notch atv shop in town. He was able to look at it for me. Said nothing was wrong and nothing was right. Lol. Haha. He used a ring compressor and cranked down and said they should go. Got home, oil rings and used my ring compressor and BOOM! Went right in to cylinder. YOU CAN NOT GET THESE IN BY COMPRESSING WITH YOUR FINGER TIPS LIKE MANY OTHER ATV MACHINES. YOU WILL NEED A RING COMPRESSOR. The oil expander rings are the issue and require mechanical force from a ring compressor. Huge lesson learned here. It's not a defective product like I thought. And I have installed and built a few engines in my time. Usually I always use fingers(nails) to compress all the piston rings. Hope this helps someone else. It was a long lesson learned for me. Instructions should be put in and added to help. Giving 3 stars still because some of this could of been avoided with instructions and good tech support. I had the tools and just didn't use either. Some could be my fault as well.
