This handheld microscope is a good idea but it is almost useless. For out in the field, it is next to impossible to hold it steady enough to view in focus what is projected on the screen. Trying to take a picture seems out of the question since it requires pushing a separate button that will jar the image when depressed. The set of slides accompanying the microscope as well as the set of 25 slides sold separately are almost totally useless. The sections and whole mounts are of very poor quality, poorly stained and show little to nothing of the beautiful substructure that all these tissues have. They really aren't useful as a teaching tool. I was really disappointed because I was hoping this gift would be treasured by my grandchildren. National Geographic should be ashamed to market this poor quality product as an educational tool.

Great gift for my granddaughter's 5th birthday! So much easier to use than the non-digital microscope I used with my first grade students. Well worth the additional cost!

This was a birthday gift for my 8-yr-old grandson. He was amazed at everything he could view with this microscope -- like his nails and his hair (and his Dad's hair). He said the slides in this set were also amazing. The "zooming in" feature was kind of tricky but his Dad figured it out. He is still enjoying looking at objects with this microscope a month later.

I bought this for my son in March to give to him for his birthday in May... Should have tested it immediately because now that it's past the return date and I have gifted it to my son... it doesn't work. Upon opening and first using, I noticed if you leaned the screen a certain way, it would become very choppy and cut out for a little bit. Now after only a few days of using it, it will not turn on. I have charged it, reset it, even taken the back off to see if a wire or screw was loose. It simply will not work no matter what I do.I'm really disappointed as I was hoping to get my 4 year old into microscopes the same way I was at his age.

Got it for my son and he had a blast with it going around and looking at different materials of things around the house. The slides are sharp! So be very cautious when handling them. The picture quality is great! With the adjustment knob, it’s very, precise I guess I could say. You need to dial in exactly to get a good quality picture. But it’s not difficult by any means to get the right focus.

This microscope is the coolest. No more the days of fitting things under a scope and looking through a little hole while scrunching one eye pretending to see what your kid sees and saying COOL! when you really saw nothing at all. The screen on this thing is awesome, the whole family can see the disgusting thing your 10 year old put under there, a dead fly, a squished lizard, you name it. You'll see it with this cool device! Loved it.
