Excellent transient response, refined electronics and superior capsule design make the MTP 840 DM a unique tool for onstage use. Innovative circuitry design and the highest-quality components make for exceptionally low self-noise and a maximum of dynamic range when in active mode; the frequency curve, which is specially tailored for vocal recordings, provides the ultimate in sound quality. A three-step high-pass filter directly influences the proximity effect, allowing adaptation of the mic to an individual artist's requirements. The built-in three-position switchable amplifier is specially adapted to the MTP 840's components, allowing lossless recording of even far-off sources. This thing sounds great either in passive mode or active. It really shines in active though, it's got the details of a condenser but without all the feedback problems. Highly recommended, the I ly thing that's close to it in my opinion and sounds is the EV ND96 but the 840 is a bit brighter and has more detail.

Not as sensitive as claimed in passive mode. Definitely not a 3.5mV/Pa. Very prone to feedback at high frequencies and the tone was not natural at all!!! I call it smokey!!! No good. The price is for the preamp inside. The workmanship is Chinese!! And you can see it. Get a Beyerdynamic M88 TG for the best natural sound ever!!!

I heard about Lewitt microphones through a friend of mine and have been using them in my studio ever since. They give a really authentic and rich, clear vocal sound that's easy to work with. I always bring my own mic for live perfomances, so when I got a call to perform at the City Winery in NYC, I thought, time to try a Lewitt. All I can say is THANK YOU for making this mic! I got audience feedback comparing my vocals to Adele and Amy Winehouse. Finally I got the grit and clarity combo I've been looking for!
