Riding season is coming and I'm looking for improvements while getting everything else in riding shape for my 2022 KLR 650. I'm tall and always found the standard OEM windshield positioning somewhat useless, although it protects my Garmin well. Windshield risers are an excellent option and while this is a common design that everyone makes, I have found that the screws are nicely machined along with the mounts which also have a nice finish, but I expect they will fade a bit with the sun like the black KLR stuff has around it. The mounts are strong, hit 75mph and no worries. One doesn't really need instructions here, but I provided pics and will toss out some installation tips:1) You'll need 4mm allen wrench for the 4 black KLR bolts that hold OEM windshield mounts, also for 4 silver KLR bolts that hold the windshield. The kit bolts use 3mm wrench, go figure. I used the long kit bolts, but not the short ones as I reused the OEM black bolts to mount the new mounts to the KLR.2) Remove 4 silver bolts and windshield, set aside.3) Remove 4 black bolts from the inside and OEM mounts.4) Place kit mounts on the inside and use the black bolts from the outside (see pics for mount orientation). It's a KLR, so good idea to use a little blue loctite for these.5) Use long silver bolts on the inside to attach OEM mounts on the outside of kit mounts, you can adjust the angle of windshield by loosening and sliding the top silver bolt. Be careful with positioning, I have seen that max forward position can have the bottom two corners of the shield touching the fairing, and will cause scratches to your paint, loctite is not a bad idea here either, but these are your adjustment screws.6) Use OEM silver bolts to reattach windshield to OEM mounts, again a good use of blue loctite for these as well.Wala, easy to adjust and clean the windshield now. Gives me better wind protection and all looks great!
