I've purchased two of these and installed them. The water leaks. Not worth buying and going through this hassle. Buy original Moen product (complete cartridge).

This repair/rebuild kit allows you fix your Moen shower on a budget. Totally anecdotal, but a friend told me a plumber charged $850 to replace her Moen shower valve. Services such as plumbing & electric have really risen in costs. The kit includes all the instructions for DIY...

I recently had to replace the Moen 1222 cartridge in my shower valve, because it was dripping constantly. I hated to throw the old cartridge away, so I bought a repair kit. I finished the repair and greased it up with silicone grease and stored it away in a sandwich bag. I have another bathroom with a shower/tub combo that uses the same cartridge. It is also 10 years old and is probably a leak waiting to happen. I am ready for whenever it does with my rebuilt cartridge!

Got this for our tub/shower spigot was very hard to turn and dripping a little. After install it works great. Install is a little tricky but doable. Make sure to clean and flush the bore that the cartridge comes out of. I wasn't aware of Moen lifetime warranty. They will send out a new assembly complete if you registered your product originally, so it would have been free and easier as the entire cartridge assembly is already put together. Anyway all said this is a good OEM rebuild kit if needed.

Currently been installed for a month or two and is working great. This was the solution for a constant drip. The original cartridge was VERY difficult to remove as all the rubber pieces were deteriorated. This cause them to bind and ‘bunch up’ as the old cartridge was being pulled out. Once I realized this , I fished around and extra the rubber in very small pieces and the cartridge eventually came out.

when assembling this unit and Re-using the copper internal valve, make sure to use plenty of the supplied lube and press the valve in "slowly". Allow the O-rings to slide in the bore without tearing them. I recommend you help the o-rings as they pass thru the openings.ultimately what fixed my leak was the outside seals.

This kit can work, but with some limitations. Here are some step by step recommendations:1) Verify that the kit is genuine Moen2) Next, when pulling the existing cartridge, make sure the valve is fully open (!). The rubber skirts damage easily if the valve is shut.3) If your existing cartridge is semi-fresh, you may be just able to replace the 2 black rubber skirts only - these usually damage first in heavily used showers (see the picture). The metal core underneath the skirts is the biggest non-uniformly moving part in the cartridge. Clean and fully lubricate the metal body under these skirts through the elongated holes. Turn the central core around a few times using pliers so that it lubricates the central area, and clean up the metal surface that rub against the skirts.4) The included lube with Moen is a tiny packet, buy a big tube of it - food grade silicon, see my picture. Use it generously.5) If rebuilding the central core and replacing all the rubber gaskets, use lots of lube to put the new ones on the metal core and the new plastic piece.6) You want to help the stretched gaskets shrink after installation - stick the core and the plastic bit into a glass, and pour boiling water there, let it cool off. Do this a couple of times. The rubber should shrink.7) Once ready to insert the core into the plastic bit, lubricate generously, use disposable gloves. See my setup. The de-cottoned Q-tip helps both to spread the lube, and also to push the stuck bits of the rubber through the holes in the plastic.8) Insert the core into the plastic casing gently, make sure the rubber does not stick out. Once the core is fully in, turn it around a few times to make sure it moves freely.9) Leave the valve in the open position, and generously lube the elongated holes, and the rubber skirts.10) Hopefully, you have a working rebuilt cartridge!!!With all these steps, you are better off having a new cartridge that you can put in the first time, then rebuild later ones. Otherwise the time & family pressure without water in the house may be immense - that is if you decide to rebuild on the on fly!

Same part as the original. After installing the 0 rings on the inside part of the valve, be very careful so you don't damage any 0 ring, when pushing the inside part in the outer cylinder.
