The Milescraft trim45 trim carpentry aid is the handiest tool in the toolbox When it comes to installing door and window casement trim, as well as decorative trim work projects such as fireplaces or bookshelves. Unique measuring and marking device eliminates fumbling with tape measures when determining the length of finish trim. Unique to the Trim45 is an adjustable reveal setting allowing it to be used on any project in any home or at any job site adding versatility and usability. Stick pins, tape measure slots, and rare earth magnets make accurate installation of even the largest windows a one person job. Other uses include a built in miter gauge for marking 45 degree angles, a built in square for marking 90 degree angles or setting miter blades, and tape measure slots allow marking straight lines at the depth of the set reveal.

I have the two Versions. The older one is much thinner than the new however it fits into a corner more positively, it also provides a tape slot to do both horizontal and vertical measurement. I like the locking mechanism on the newer version also the clamping provision rather than the pins of the older version... please bear in mind these are not precision tools for use in the rocket industry, just guides , aids you know

If you regularly do trim with mitered corners, this tool will save you a lot of time and repeat, cuts, and calculations. No more asking someone to hold the dumb end. The reveal gauge makes this an an all around trim carpenters new best friend. The magnets to hold your tape are a thoughtful and useful addition. Wouldn’t want to do another house full of mitered trim without it.

Let’s face it these things are basically gadgets for people that don’t know how to do things like a pro.Which is fine! However, using things like this may help you do a better job on your project, but it WILL also slow you down.Clamping it, carrying it around, getting it to stay stable all come into play.Does it work? YES! Works well. But it’s also time consuming and slightly cumbersome to use.I can see it coming in handy if you’re working solo, but it’s also gonna take you longer to set it up.I guess that’s the trade off with the purpose it serves. It is pretty accurate though.

I ended up not using this except for marking the reveal and it really isn't necessary for that. A combination square (even a cheap one) works just as well.Used as instructed it does what it says but it just isn't necessary.
