Measures 11.5" tip to shoulder. 1.5" of shoulder not stitched. Distal half rapid taper to narrow tip. With 5/32" thick stock, tip likely to snap off under undue pressure. Proximal half is parallel sided at 1.0" wide with approx. 20 teeth per inch. Teeth stitching overlap along length but not RH stroke. This approximates a Nickolson #50 cabinet makers rasp for use after wood rasp but before bastard file. NOT for metal! Unhandled. Grind tang to taper and charr into drilled shopmade wood handle. Some hardening warpage. Edge retention--no comment. Oil before handling.

Great heavy duty file or rasp have been using it for rounding corners on live edge table tops, works great gets into hard to get areas with its unique style.

This large file has a somewhat unique shape, sort of a spear-shaped half round rasp. It's very coarse, and if you lightly run your finger down it, the points are a bit sharp for a file. So this is not for fine filing, nor for metal I don't think. I can't think of any scenario where this is what I'd reach for when working with metal.It's really a rasp in my opinion, for rapid shaping and removal of wood. It could be used on other soft materials as well, such as plastic, PVC or foam. I really like it because it's unique, just be aware of what you're getting.
