I bought it for myself to use as an attention getter in my class but it did come beautifully packaged to give as a gift. The sound is perfect for getting students attention. Not to loud but heard across the room.

Ideal if you're signaling that it's time to stop doing silent work in a class or meeting. Not loud enough if you're trying to get noisy adults to pay attention.

These three tones remind me of the old NBC commercial. It also reminds me sometimes at plays or concerts if there's an intermission, they'll be some docent running around to let you know it's time to start the second half of the show, this would work fine for that also.
