I've been fighting with thread files for entirely too long - and buying all of the huge dies I'd need for thread repair on spindles isn't at all cost effective. This is. It's not a perfect solution, but it's a really good inexpensive and space saving alternative to dies, and works much more accurately and easier than files.

Overall nice tool for repairing threads on large diameter bolts, from maXpeedingrods. The tool itself is solid and well built. The adjustment handle works smoothly and accurately to adjust the die down to the size you need.Keep in mind this is for 1&1/4 inch to 5" OD. Those are large sizes and most of where I find them are on heavy equipment, farm implements, and similar items. But anything smaller this can't really help or handle since you can crank down beyond 1&1/4".I do appreciate that it comes stacked with a nice 4 sided tread cutter dies that are replaceable. You get six of them that conveniently store on the tool itself. Sizes, as listed, are: threads per inch - 4 5 6 7 7-1/2 8 9 10 11 11-1/2 12 14 16 18 20 and 24. So most of your common thread options are covered. Each set is well marked and pretty easy to read, which is nice.As for operation, I found this takes some practice. I also found that you need to be sure you have the right tread die for the thread count or consequences can be grave... The do the job of cutting into threads, so the wrong one will ruin a bolt quickly. Also, you need to be flat on the bolt or things can get squirly. Once near the end, pay particular attention to angles and such or things can get out of whack. All in all, for the price, I feel it's a good option for a thread repair. Other options and dies can get expensive to cover the same amount of sizes and types you get here. More of a specialized tool for specific needs when you have to save the day. Large diameter bolts are expensive so this could potentially pay for itself after a few uses.
