About this item

  • ROUND WOUND AND FLATTENED - Our light acoustic guitar strings feature a high-carbon steel hex core, precision wound with round phosphor bronze which is ground and polished to create a smooth flat surface.
  • CLEAN STUDIO QUALITY SOUND - The flattened surface of our light phosphor bronze strings helps to reduce squeaks and unwanted finger noise, making these strings ideal for live performances or studio recording sessions.
  • BRIGHT CLEAR SOUND - Our light gauge strings offer a warm bright sound while enabling you to hit fast runs and bends like you would on an electric guitar.
  • BALANCED TONE, LONG SUSTAIN - Our flattened phosphor bronze strings create a bright, deep tone, and are able to vibrate longer than round wound strings, allowing you to sustain those notes for longer.

They stay in tune. A little different from regular acoustic strings. They have a more mellow sound, good for chords, not sure about solos yet. The price makes them well worth trying. I'll buy them again.

I really liked the feel and sound of these strings. And the price was comparable to others on the market. I put them on my Martin and they played wonderfully. I don't play professionally but I do keep the strings clean and tidy between sessions but I noticed that the tone dropped off considerably within a couple of weeks. I'm six weeks in now and the strings sound pretty dull. I'll definitely try them again, maybe a heavier gauge, but I was disappointed by the short playing life.

These strings are wonderful in every way= tone, playability, longevity. Do NOT buy them on amazon because here they overcharge by ~$6 per package. This is generally considered as 'gouging' or swindling. Great strings-bad price. Look elsewhere, please do not encourage this behavior. My two cents.

These strings initially performed as I had anticipated. Finger squeak was gone and the tone was slightly warmer than the DR Rare Acoustic Custom Lights I have been using on 4 of my acoustic guitars. I installed these on my PRS SE P20. I replaced a set of the aforementioned DR strings with these Magma flat 10-48's.The lack of finger resistance due to the flat finish of these strings took a couple of days to get used to. But once acclimated to the feel of these strings I immediately ordered a set of the Light+ 11-52's to put on my A&E parlor guitar. It was enjoyable playing without any finger noise. The tone was great and the feel was different in a good way. For what it is worth, I mostly play acoustic blues and use a pick. However, after a week of playing with these strings I noticed the wound "G" string was beginning to exhibit roughness from the 3rd to 8th frets. Within 10 days the flat winding on the "G" string had completely failed at the 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8th frets. The frets on my PRS acoustic are smooth and highly polished so wear from abnormal frets was not the issue. Hopefully the attached photo shows the failure points between frets 3 and 6. I have since removed the Magma "G" string and put the six month old DR "G" string back on. I am now starting to see the same issue manifest itself on the "D" string.I have been playing for 60+ years, have numerous acoustic and electrics and have used most brands of strings on the market. I wipe down my guitar neck and strings after every playing session and get very good life out of my string sets. At this point I am sorry I bought these and doubly sorry I ordered a second set.

I usually play electric guitar with chrome flat wound D'Addario's so going to my acoustic was hard on the fingers and I don't like the screech of the round wounds. I then tried silk wound Ernie Ball's and then D'Addario flat tops and it was an improvement. I then read on a Martin forum about the easy playability and quietness of the Magma's and I just put them on my Martin SC13e. There is a marked difference between the D'Addario and the Magma's. Both are ground rounds but the Magma's are much smoother and easier to play. No screech ! So after trying Martin,Ernie Ball, and D'Addario strings these are the one's that work best for me!

Awesome strings, lasting life, consistent sound. Scratching sounds have reduced greatly. To clarify, acoustic guitars have 4 wound strings, and 2 plain. There is a picture of the 4, and the 2. (Electric guitar strings have 3 wound, and 3 plain)

These are just awesome strings! Will rate the longevity after a couple of months. The noise factor from fingers as you slide up and down the frets when bar chords are used is almost nil!

I don't use these. I don't play in a mariachi band. If you have a cheap guitar and want to play loud and percussive, these might do.

I recently bought a couple sets of Magma electric flatwounds on sale - I periodically use flats on Teles and Strats for a realistic 1950's sound. I was very impressed, and when I stumbled on this gage of acoustic flats I wanted to see how they compared to D'Addario's ground-top "Flat tops" (which have a "semi flat" feel slightly smoother than their also ground-top "Half rounds") and others - again, for vintage sounds, as in the 1950's and early 60's flatwounds were VERY common - plus many use them on electric jazz guitars for both tonal and reduced finger noise reasons.I was expecting a similar tone to D'Addarios - but IMO they are brighter, with better projection, pick dynamics, sustain and overall volume.I'm basing this on use of 2 sets on totally different guitars; a 1964 Martin D-28 (Brazilian rosewood back/sides), and a more recent Martin CEO-7...a smaller, 00-sized mahogany back/sides guitar with a different body shape and different bracing. They produced the appropriate tone and dynamics on each one, based on their differing construction.Because of my body chemistry I can destroy roundwound phosphor bronze and 80/20 bronze strings in 4-5 hours of playing, so I have to change strings often. Previous flats have lasted me 2-3 weeks, (at 4 hours/day) but with a slowly deteriorating brightness. The Magmas have gone 2 weeks with NO change. And since flatwounds are NOT cheap, this is a tremendous advantage. I'll be using these on a regular basis when I need flats for recording - I can keep them installed on these or other Martin dreadnaughts and 00's I own and it'll be a tremendous money saver (especially on a mostly fixed retirement income!)Note - I do NOT use coated strings. Every brand I've tried ( and I've ben sent free test sets in the past from other companies) either have had lifeless initial tone or a weird, distracting feel and inconsistent sound - especially when the coating starts to wearAlso - I may star-rate products from companies who give freebies, but NEVER write reviews on them - unless they are poor quality products in my opinion, and I want to warn others. I have received and want nothing from Magma - although I have a wish-list item: flatwound strings for squareneck resophonic guitar use! D'Addario makes "FlatTops", but the windings are round where they met the core wire (like Magma's flatwounds). I'm hoping someone will make true flatwound sets for acoustic instruments!
