Big bold letters state: Suitable for outdoor use only. Those words are misleading. After you set the clock and the on/off times: the photocell is obviated. My photocell is not wired to the outdoors and the controller works fine. Very easy to set up. It weighs considerably more than my old Malibu controller, but this has many more features if you employ (optional) the photocell. Will have to readjust for daylight savings, but that will be easily done.

No pins to move. It senses the light and turns the yard lights on. I can use fixed or variable time. It mounted directly to the old screw from my old Malibu timer. The case is better made, even though I had no problems with the old one and the price seems reasonable. It not only works as advertised it is just a good unit at this time for me. Yes, I would buy it again.

Water does get in . not completely waterproof. However my first one lasted 2 plus years before water ruined it, so I hope this one lasts also.

I replace an old unit that did not work. This was an easy install, easy to program and works perfectly for over a year now.

I bought this Malibu Low Voltage Transformer in November 2021. It worked great until a couple of days ago, then it quit working. I finally figured out what was wrong - the reset button on the back of the transformer had tripped. I just had to push the button and the transformer worked.I have owned many Malibu Low Voltage Transformers and this is the first one that I had a problem with. I intend to keep using these transformers with my LV lights. They are great!

I installed this very easily to to replace an existing transformer that had gone bad after ten years in my yard for LED landscape lighting. I set it to come on at dark using the photocell and stay on for 8 hours. I was excited to wait for the sun to go down to see my house again. However, when I went to look, the house was dark. I went to the unit and turned the knobs a bit and unplugged and replugged in the photocell and nothing. When I turned the setting to ON, the lights came on. So I figured: well I guess I will just have to use the timer setting and not rely on the photocell. This worked just fine. Until it didn't. After having it for a couple weeks now, every few days my lights are not on. The timer gets stuck where it changes the current time or the current time gets stuck on one of the timer settings. If you reset the timer settings, it works again. You get a day or a few where it works fine, but then you have to reset it again. I was willing to overlook the photocell not working but now having no photocell function and a very temperamental timer make this way too much of a hassle to have to deal with.

Update after 9 months - continues to work perfectly - have not had to touch it since installing!Working fine. Like the photocell. There are a multitude of timer/photocell control options (see pic) that should work for just about any outdoor application - I am using “on at dusk for 6 hours”. It has a low wattage capacity but i am using to power 8 x 3w LED fixtures (see pic) and having no problems - been using for about 2 weeks.

I purchased this to replace a much larger Malibu transformer that went out after the insides got wet and shorted out. This works great. With LED’s, you don’t really need much more than 100-200 watt transformers for basic landscape lights. I have 6 up lights and 8 path lights on this transformer without any issues. I have plenty of wattage room to add more lights if I need to. I like that it’s not a “smart” transformer as it will likely last 10-15 years and software would become outdated. I plug this into a smart plug and set it to come on 20 min after sunset, regardless of the season. This way you don’t ever have to adjust the time throughout the year. It has a sensor that senses when it becomes dark but I notice that it usually comes on way too early while the suns still out because the box is hidden and the sensor thinks it’s dark. You can manually program it, or set it to 4,6,8,10 or 12 hours. With the smart plug, it kinda makes these features obsolete but at least it has the option. As long as you keep it upright so the rain doesn’t enter the ventilation slit in the back, it should last a very long time.
