I like that it comes with directions on how to use each piece. It would be nice if the supplied extractor was a bit more robust. It certainly helped drill out the broken off and stuck manifold bolts. I ended up drilling one bolt out with all three supplied drill bit sizes and was not able to extract the remaining metal. However, I was able to use this kit to help me keep a separately purchased drill tap aligned and straight as I cleared out the remaining metal. Maybe a future kit will include a bore bit just in case...

This gem helped me get three broken exhaust manifold bolts (broken flush or even recessed with the head) on cylinders 7 and 8. These bolts were tough to get to, especially cyl #7. This tool helped ensure a center and straight drill, for the extractor. Great tool and easy to use.

Great tool for the money, the extractor was a little on the small side for my liking so I used my the 3/16 drill bit “included” after the 1/8” bit, and used a more aggressive extractor that I had more faith in. 4 of 4 came out easy.

Had five broken manifold bolts. For stuck out so I could get out with welded nut. Fifth one was broken flush. Try to weld nut couldn't get enough penetration. Found the kit on Amazon ordered read the instructions and went to work. Worked as advertised. Had to use all drill bits and tap. Machining fit and finish of the pieces is excellent. Would recommend to anyone who is having trouble.

Bought this this thing to drill out three broken exhaust manifold bolts on a Chevy Tahoe and it works great. One was all the way to the firewall so we used a 300 rpm air powered ratchet to drill it out with the tap drill size on the first go. The holes seemed to be lined up good and threads will still in good condition after they we re-tapped. The only thing negative I can say is make sure the little thumb retainer screws thread in ok before you put it on the head. A couple of mine went in a little hard.

I used this guide to remove 2 broken exhaust manifold bolts on the head of my 2007 Chevy Avalanche 5.3l as part of a collapsed lifter repair. The only piece of this kit that is lacking is the easy out. The one provided was the square type that you pound in. I found this to be completely inadequate for removing the broken bolt after it was drilled. As you can see in the picture on my review, I used a helical style easy out to remove the bolts after they were drilled. I was really impressed by the quality of this unit and the way it performed. All other components in the kit are great quality. The drills in the kit are high speed cobalt. This is a really nice touch as they have superior durability when compared to standard high speed drills. It is also great that they included many extra drills in the event that one becomes dull. All components fit within the included plastic blow molded case.I think the key to using this kit is to take your time. It probably took me at least 30 minutes to drill each hole. I would oil the drill, drill for a few seconds then pull the drill out, blow it off, remove the drill guide bushing, blow out the hole and bushing, then reinstall the bushing, oil the drill and repeat. I think I was maybe drilling .030 to .050 inches deep between oil applications. I think if you attempted to drill deeper pecks it would have a significant negative impact to the performance of the drills and their ability to remain in the center of the bolt. S you can see by the picture, the hole I drilled in the bolt was dead center.

The jig, drill and tap bushings, screws, alignment bolts, drill depth gauge and rotomolded case are top notch. Very impressed with the quality and workmanship of these components. The drill bits are of medium quality at best. I would be willing to pay more for the tool to get titanium carbonitride or titanium aluminum nitride or something else that is of a very high quality. I suggest getting your own bits, or go super slow, lots of oil, and preferably have the head off the vehicle so you can put it in a press or similar. Once you get deep into the broken fastener, the angles between the drill, drill bit bushing and the hole in the fastener make it very easy to break a bit. They also dull quickly, even with pulling the bit every 10 seconds, blowing out all the chips and oiling it like crazy.I found the extractor to not function at all. It either walked right out of the hole or was visibly twisting and would have broken.I would definitely purchase again, and start with my own better quality bits and extractor.
