When our detectors started complaining they were at the end of their life (10 years), I started looking for replacements.Amazon was by far the best priced place to buy them. However . . . . beware, seems as ALL "new" detectors have a different connector for the hardwired units than was in use 10-15 years ago. And no way to make the old connector work on the new as the shape and pin layout is different, so, you'll need to shut off the breaker and swap out the included connector for the old one.

I have a whole wired house of smoke detectors. My model was discontinude, but after checking the Kidde website, these are the exact new replacements for my system. Simple and easy to replace existing wire harness and install the new ones. These are working perfect.

So I get it, when the next design comes out (old units are 10 yrs old and it's time for replacement) things change right? Most likely from year to year. But does the design really need to change so much that the leads for the AC supply have to change as well?Has anyone at Kidde thought that with multiple detectors ,a home owner has to go through the process of determining which circuit breaker feeds each alarm. This turns a simple job into a larger project. As a retired maintenance guy I have the tools to perform this task easily enough. While others may have to hire the job out.OK rant over. Kidde makes an excellent product that functions well.

I had to replace the “Primary Detector” from a Kidde 4 alarm set that was installed 11 + years ago. When doing the Kidde model number search on Amazon, this was the top of the search. I am glad it was since the secondary or linked bedroom alarms also showed up in the search. So I made a lucky decision on the right model, as this one was ~3 times the cost of the others. It was easy to install as all I had to do was replace the connection plug as it was a slightly different plug style but the prongs were exactly the same line up and this unit linked up perfectly to the bedroom alarms. I did pick up a First Alert 2 pack from Costco, but the prong set up was different, so I did not want to install those as I was not sure they would connect to the others right. Kidde replacement works great.

I recently purchased the Kidde 900-CUAR-V Carbon Monoxide Detector, and it has been a great addition to my home safety setup. Here's why I highly recommend it:**Pros:**- **Accurate and Reliable:** The digital display provides real-time CO readings, which is reassuring. It’s sensitive and alerts at the right time without false alarms.- **Easy Installation:** The instructions are clear, and it took me just a few minutes to set it up.- **Battery Backup:** It has a built-in battery backup, so it works even during power outages—a must-have feature.- **Compact Design:** It’s unobtrusive and blends well with home decor.- **UL-Certified:** This adds extra peace of mind knowing it meets high safety standards.**Cons:**- The alarm sound is very loud, which is great for safety but might be startling.Overall, the Kidde 900-CUAR-V is an excellent product that prioritizes safety and ease of use. I feel much more secure knowing my family is protected from the dangers of carbon monoxide. Highly recommend it!

I replaced 8.5 year old Kidde smoke detectors due to their “end of life” which I later learned goes by mfg date, and not install date. I wanted a replacement that would fit the same bracket and there was only one model that would do so. I discovered that the battery access is now not on the bottom, but on the top where it attaches to the ceiling bracket! The old ones had the easy access to change batteries. Why would they mfg new detectors, and go backwards in design?! So whenever a battery needs changed, the entire detector will need taken down to remove the old battery and insert the new one! The one model that would fit the old bracket now required an added $5.00 adapter as they changed the plug. The Kidde representative stated that Kidde changes the model number according to the year of mfg. 900-CUAR-V was mfg. in 2023; 30-CUAR-V mfg. in 2024; they are the same model. A week after install, the 30-CUAR-V’s voice alarm sounded “low battery”. Kidde states THEIR batteries already needed changed & to use only two battery brands for this model: Energizer E91 AA, or Gold Peak brands. She also stated that when I buy the new batteries, I should make sure that they don’t expire before 2029, as they need enough “juice” to make the detectors work properly.” So Kidde wants to charge this high price, and also expect us to replace their cheap, now “courtesy” included batteries in a ridiculously short amount of time?! I guess Kidde thinks people have nothing better to do, and all kinds of cash, and also they don’t care that some people are unable to replace batteries on high ceilings by themselves, nor do they apparently care if they have repeat customers anymore. I will not be buying Kidde brand again. This company has pathetically gone down hill.
