Back when I rode years ago, I bought a cheap bike at a police auction. I used to have those ring-like wrenches to tune the spokes, but in the end the bike was too far gone and tightening and replacing some spokes broke the rim, so it wasn't worth fixing. It might have been my problem for over tightening which is why this set besides the included tools included a tension gauge and you can get a good balance to keep the rims running true and not cause damage. I found old ten speeds light weight bikes to be a problem with bumps, curbs and other hazards. The mountain bike helped me go back to a time when bikes had a big tire to take up the shock. Those old Typhoons were hard to pedal, but darn near indestructible. I don't ride today my size makes it a problem, but a good friend who bought a classic ten-speed last year found good use to keep it tuned up. He's never used a tension gauge, but I thought it would make the ride smoother and not cost too many trips to the bike shop. Recommended.

Specialized tools like this are usually reserved for bike shops. But this is affordable enough that any bike enthusiasts can own one. This kit has every thing you need for bike wheel spoke adjustment needed to keep wheels running true. The supplied instructions are not that great so you will need to research on your own on how to use. The included tensionometer is pretty accurate and consistent.
