I bought the "Top Street Performance JM6672BK Vortec Distributor" for my C1500 chevy 5.7 (350) Vortec. I have been developing a restoration model for my old truck for my last 8 month. Two weeks after I intaled the brand new distributor my truck strated to hesitate and lose power, then just didn't start. I checked all the electrical system, recplaced the New Cap for my old AcDelco Cap and my truck fired up prety good again. When made a detailed inspection of the Top Street Cap, it has made a short circuit and burned up.It has a really bad quality Cap, and now I don't trust in the whole assembly.

READ COMPLETELY "BEFORE" DOING ANYTHING!Before I did anything I hand cranked my engine, using a large crescent wrench on the fan mounting nut, to Top Dead Center. Reference the line on the Harmonic Balancer (see pic #1) . When it's in the correct position the prong on the rotor will be pointing toward #1 spark plug. Once you get the rotor pointing in the correct position, take a white marking paint pen, or something that won't rub off easily, and make a mark on the upper intake directly in line with the rotor (Pic #2). Sorry, rotor was already removed. This mark will be your reference point when you install your new distributor. The pointer on the rotor should line up perfectly with this mark once the new distributor has "completed" seated. If it doesn't line up you'll have to pull the distributor back up, turn it, and try to re-seat it again. If you can't get it to line up in the correct position you'll need to take a long regular screwdriver (as long, or longer than the distributor shaft), and re-position the oil pump drive slot. Now, before you loosen the hold down bracket you'll also want to mark where your old distributor's housing position is, this is so you can get the new one back in the exact same position (Pic #3). This will almost assure you that you'll be within the +1 to -1 of zero on your computer-controlled timing. Now your ready to loosen the hold down bracket and remove your old distributor. Follow the steps above, and re-use your old hold down bracket when you install your new distributor, that way you'll be able to tweak the housing back to your exact reference mark you made earlier. Take your time, follow the steps, and your truck should start right up, mine did. Note: I used a string to tie the AC compressor hose forward so it was out of my way. You'll also want to pull your brake vacuum hose out of the brake booster and pull it forward so it's out of your way also.04-06/21 Just a follow up, this thing is still working great

The distributor is good quality, however I don't recommend using the cap or rotor included, mine failed after 2 months and left me stranded on the side of the road. Cap shorted at the coil terminal. Over all good quality, definitely better than the plastic OEM part.

Bought this for my 2001 chevy silverado that has a 5.7. GREAT product, easy installation and you can tell when you examime it that it is built to last. Upgraded my fuel injectors also and felt the difference. Instant throttle response. This is really worth the money.

Make sure you don't lose any of the machine screws that hold the cap Down. They are fine thread screws, unlike the course thread screws in the stock plastic distributor. Make sure you use a magnetic torques 20 driver. The billet shaft on this distributor is keyed and comes with its own hold down clamp. My advice is to use your original hold down clamp, so you can actually adjust the timing. Otherwise you'll have to be an expert at the install unlike me. This distributor does not come with any instructions, so you're on your own. Do yourself a favor and watch some videos on YouTube how to install a distributor and/or read up on some literature. On my 1998 GMC 5.7 engine, you have to hook it up to a computer to set the timing. I purchased a scanner on Amazon that hooks up to the laptop. So still need to set correct timing retard. All in all, this distributor is an excellent value and also comes with a brass contact distributor cap and rotor button. Which alone can cost anywhere from $65-$80 How they can make a quality replacement part like this for that cheap, I have no idea but no complaints here! So far so good. I highly recommend buying this product. Final note. Kudos to Amazon and there one day shipping. I ordered this distributor at 3 AM on a Sunday (I couldn't sleep). The part arrived at my house at 8 PM that same Sunday! One day shipping on a Sunday!!!? That alone is very impressive.

excellent quality. I like the metal housing over the oem plastic. direct install. if on tdc when installed no cam retard adjustment needed. if needed it was installed incorrectly or you have a loose/worn chain. it came with a cap and rotor but i used my old ones and feel it would have been a bargain if it didnt include them. saved the ones that came with it for future.
