If you have some thick SAS disks, there are not many options available. I have two of these. If you need something to mount a bunch of thick SAS 2.5 disks, this is it.The goodIn my case I'm using this with some thick SAS disks. Can't hear fan. Seems attractive. I ran some 600gb SAS 10K disks, then later switched them out for some 800gb SLC SAS disks.The badThermal solution is poor. Case gets very warm. You should avoid hot disks. The drive caddies are a compromise and not the sturdiest.

---Update 7/21/2016---The original unit I received had a bad fan that was not working causing all of the lights to flash red. I tried opening up an RMA with iStarUSA but they took too long to respond so I returned the unit to Amazon for a refund. Ultimately, I decided to give this product a 2nd chance and ordered another one, but ordered a new unit instead of a Amazon Warehouse "used" one. The new unit works great so far. Both fans are spinning, and the lights are not flashing red. I've only got 1 drive installed so far (an SSD) and it is working fine. I'll be adding 2 more drives tonight and will follow-up if there are any other problems. Bringing my score up another star.Pros: Looks great, easy to install the main unit, red backplate makes it easy to spot the connectors inside a dark case.Cons: Drive trays don't slide very easily (metal on metal), drive trays are not tool-less, slow response from RMA department.Thoughts: I would like to see a tray-less version to make swapping drives easier.---Original Review---I have two of the larger 4x 3.5" HDD x 3x 5.25" hot-swap modules and they work perfectly. This unit I received appears to be a dud. All of the power LEDs for the hard drives are flashing red regardless of which position the LED switch is in. I did all of the obvious troubleshooting: RTFM, replaced all the SATA cables and replaced the power cable (modular PSU FTW). None of it has made any difference, the lights continue to flash non-stop. I installed a single SSD into the cage and it is working fine, no clue why this is being a pain. I've opened a support ticket with iStarUSA to see what they say.

Not sure what the other reviewer was talking about in terms of poor construction. Mine feels pretty darn sturdy. No rattle or bendy bits. The door latches are metal, or at least feel like it and don't bend when I tried to flex them. The trays dont slide out very smoothly, but I dont plan on swapping out SSD drives on the regular. Or.. ever.. It felt a little tight sliding the whole thing in, but it went in fine without scraping anything. No idea why the painted the outside of it with a racing stripe.. thats a waste.

This is a piece of junk. For the money i was expecting it to be built a lot better. Doesn't help that it was also DOA, one fan in the back would not spin right out of the box, resulting in super bright LEDs flashing on the front; even if it was working correctly this is still very cheaply built. Look elsewhere.

Nice metal construction.Had the problem that it fit very tightly in my 5.25" bay. Like it was bigger than the standard.

I would have given it 5 stars, but it's a little larger than a standard 5.25 in slot so I had to jam it into the available space. Outside of that it's great.
