Took a while to oust my Bottomline Tournament Champion model .. but I was so impressed by the Helix 7 .. ran them together drift trolling over the lakes dropoffs to deeper water .. they marked the same .. but the mega down showed in many more pixels more separation than my trusted 1995 Bottomline unit my baitfish finder. I think Bottomline and Humminbird had a very good merger. The Helix unit is at my bow and I love it. I know it's not the panoptics or 360 but I'm in it for the fun and relaxation. And I like bringing home supper. Bottomline did it back in the day at an $800 dollar price point which makes the Helix7 look like a bargain at today's inflation. I liked it so much I ordered an iceducer and will post its ice fishing merits as I find .. your mileage may vary.

I wish I would have know there is the exact same model available but with an "N" at the end of the name. The "N" stands for "Networking." That model is required to connect the Helix to a Minn Kota trolling motor for the follow-the-contour feature. (Also requires additional purchase of LakeMaster map card). Well now I'm out $600 and there is no way to add that feature to what I bought. I would have to throw this away and shell out $750 to get the "N" model (plus a LakeMaster card for an additional $150). I might spend $800 for follow-the-contour but I'm not going to spend $1,400 for it. I hate that you have to spend 50 hours online reading about their entire product line in order to figure out what you really need to buy.Even after 50 hours of research, I still haven't found what cone angle I have. So when I'm in 20 feet of water, how much bottom am I seeing on screen? Is it showing 2 feet of bottom or 8 feet of bottom?Additionally, the MEGA Down Imaging view is fine at showing structure on bottom but it stinks at showing fish. I need the 2D sonar view to see fish. But I need the chart to steer since I don't have follow-the-contour but there just isn't enough screen real estate to display all that.Additionally, SmartStrike is not available for the lake I fish so there is another feature I can't have.Otherwise it's a fine unit.

So far it is performing nicely. Many features on it that I won't use but if you only want basic depth and where the fish are it is fairly easy to figure out. Operators manual does not come with it but is accessible on line.

Second one I own for my boat. Installed on the trolling motor at the bow. Works amazing and has clarity, ease of use and detailed under water information during scanning. Definitely worth the purchase
